Me, Tina and Dr. Oz

So today I made my debut on national television. (Well, other than waving/cheering for Caitlin when she was on The Today Show.)

Things I Learned From My First (Real) Experience on National TV:

  • Dr. Oz is a lovely man. He shook everyone’s hands before we went on for my segment. I don’t watch his show all the time, but I still geeked out quite a bit shaking his hand.
  • Pleats? Don’t work out well if you’re going to be doing a lot of getting up and sitting down, which you will be if you’re in a studio audience and then walk down to be on a segment.
  • If you think you’re showing a little cleavage, you’re probably actually showing a lot. Oops. Sorry, America.
  • When you get a ton of prizes (more on this later), you actually have to pay taxes on them. Sort of annoying, but still worth it.
  • You also don’t get to take them home–they send them to you after the fact. Which is nice, because we got a lot of stuff.
  • If you do spill your cocktail in aforementioned cleavage (it was sangria, and the glass was really full), just pretend it didn’t happen. Nobody will ever know…until you blog about it.

Today at work, I was super-antsy waiting for the show to come on. I couldn’t wait to see my segment and Tina’s. We have a TV in one of our conference rooms, so just after 4, I snuck down with one of my coworkers. I remembered that my segment wasn’t on for awhile, so I went back upstairs to kill a little time. The very sweet Julie obliged my request to live-tweet the show, and I ran down just before my segment was actually on.

Oh, that’s just me and Dr. Oz having a moment.

I grinned like an idiot while I drank my “healthy” holiday cocktail, a glass of sangria. The part of the segment where you can actually see me is really short, but, hey, I was still standing there on national TV drinking a lovely cocktail, so I’m not complaining.

I just watched Tina’s segment, and she did a really good job, too! You can’t tell at all how nervous she is.

THE PRIZES

You guys. These prizes!! I was really excited just to be on the show, and I would have been excited just to have been in the audience, but I happened to get lucky enough to go on the day they were filming Dr. Oz’s 12 Days of Christmas, so everyone in the audience got each of his 12 favorite things.

Most exciting? The Vitamix! As a single girl who, admittedly, doesn’t a cook a ton, there is no way I ever would have spent $400 on a blender on my own. I thought the only way I’d ever get it was if I put on my wedding registry one day. But! My buddy Dr. Oz hooked me up with one. I can’t wait to mix things up (pun intended) with it.

He also hooked us up with a Bissell vacuum cleaner, a Sony tablet, Reebok RealFlex running shoes, some Philosophy microderm stuff, a necklace, a really nice Comfort Revolution gel pillow (which I’ve been sleeping with for the past week)…

…and this beautiful piece of machinery. I’d like to introduce you to YONANAS.

It is…bananas. Seriously. It takes bananas and turns them into banana soft-serve. I’ve been dying to post about this since I got it. In all honesty, the Vitamix could pretty much do the same thing, but the novelty of a machine called Yonanas that is solely dedicated to making bananas into dessert is something I can’t get over.

I’ve looked online and there don’t appear to be any clips up, but if they do put any up, I’ll be sure to share them with you!

You both were awesome on the show!! Although I kinda think Tina should have won. Silly Cookie Monster.
I am so jealous of your Vitamix, I have been wanting one forever. Please share all of your glorious blended concoctions with us so that I can live vicariously through you.

I was at the gym and they actually had Dr. Oz on.. they usually have Ellen on so I was surprised.. and new I could catch you guy!

I have a yonanas and rarely use it. My father got it for me over the summer because he knows how much I love bananas. It is a very unique idea. Perhaps I will use it more often NEXT summer.

    And a vitamix? So awesome!

I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how jealous I am that you got a Vitamix machine!!! I am DYING for one but, just like you, I don’t think I can justify spending $400 on a blender (even if it really is as awesome as everyone says). However, I am SUPER excited to hear what you do with it.

That’s awesome! I’ll have to find a way to watch the show online. I’ve always wondered what kind of prizes and things audience members get sometimes. Thanks for sharing and congrats on getting such cool stuff!
