How Fast Can I Run One Mile?

Screen shot 2012-08-02 at 9.00.26 PM.png

Today, my plan called for a one-mile time trial. I don’t think I’d run just one mile since huffing and puffing through the mile in middle school, so I was ridiculously excited to see what I could bust out for just one mile.

I don’t usually curse on my blog, and I don’t usually post pictures of my Garmin, but I think we can agree this is worth breaking both of those rules, right?

Because this? This is fucking awesome. If my plan is right, and as my fitness improves, my time will decrease, I would LOVE to break a 6-minute mile–which I NEVER would have thought possible.

BRB inputting this into as many race calculators as possible.

That is so AWESOME!!!! Do the Fifth Avenue Mile and make it an official time! I’m thinking of spectating at that race (or at least part of it). It would be great to have someone to root for. I’d make a sign, but at your pace, you wouldn’t even see it. 🙂

    Congratulations!!!

Nice! I hated running the mile in gym (I think we had to do it through HS). I never thought about this, but I suppose one day – once I’m speedy like you – I could head back to my HS track and conquer that old demon.

Can’t wait to see what your time is next month!

    So happy for your accomplishments!!

Nice!!! You need to do the Fifth Avenue Mile race, it’s usually in the fall. I’ve done it twice and it’s so much fun. No timing chips, just a bunch of women lined up at the start line like we’re racing in the Olympics and running balls out down 5th for a mile. I think still to this day it was the fastest I ever ran a mile, and not as fast as you! Congrats!

That’s so awesome! Great job!!! Madison Square Park was my park (since it was across the street from where I used to work!). I miss NYC! Keep up the pace and you’ll hit your mark. 🙂

That is pretty fucking awesome! Holy shit! My fastest mile is exactly 8 minutes. I was running on the treadmill at a 1% incline going for that very goal, and had done so many times before, but finally got it one day. Have I run an 8 min mile since then? No, because I was only trying to get there, I don’t really like running haha. Just wanted to say I could do it. But a sub 7 minute mile is pretty damn amazing. Good job! It’s so exciting that you can take this to the race calcs 😀
