Keep Calm and Drink Almond Milk

The contents of my grocery basket change every time, depending on my mood or what’s on sale, but there’s a few constants.

Bananas.

Wine.

Almond milk.

I’m not entirely lactose intolerant, but my stomach doesn’t enjoy much dairy, and since exploring dairy alternatives, I’ve fallen in love with both almond and soy milk.

I almost always have a container of Almond Breeze in my refrigerator, and I use it basically the same way I’d use cow’s milk: in cereal, in smoothies, in oatmeal and even baking. As Anne said, it has less protein than cow’s milk, but otherwise it’s very healthy and is a good source of calcium and Vitamins D, E and A.

I don’t quite know how they can make the almond milk taste sweet without adding sweetener, but it’s pretty damn good.

Speaking of sweet, they’re running a pretty sweet sweepstakes on their Facebook page right now.

I think we can all use some kind words in our lives, right?

Well, one lucky winner on their Facebook page will win a year’s supply of Almond Breeze and a $1000 home store gift card to “spruce up your kitchen!”

You just have to like their page and then leave a nice message for someone else to “get their good going.”

I chose my mom because she rocks, and I don’t know what I’d do without her.

I get my good going by running:

…and eating bananas.

I work at a non profit so all day long people come in and tell me their stories. Knowing I’m helping them idrfinitely makes me feel good.

My good got going today when I did my first proper bike ride with my toddler in a bicycle seat instead of towing that heavy old trailer for him! He loved it, I loved it and my cycling passion is revving up. We cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge in the fog and got the ferry back to the city. It was amazing.

I’ve never tried almond milk…I’m up for trying it!!

Yesterday they guy in the deli gave me the wrong coffee and I noticed it when I was half way to my offic (not yet drank) so I saw a homeless person looking through the trash and gave it to him. With a huge smile, which made me smile he thanked me!

I love almond milk too, and drink that same vanilla unsweetened but buy it in the bigger carton now because I use so much! I make a smoothie almost every day for breakfast. So good! I want to experiment with making my own nut milks in my Vitamix soon!

Last night I helped a handicapped lady get her groceries out of her cart and then put the bags back in for her when she was done. She was so appreciative and it made me feel great! Definitely got my good going!

The fact that I have recently lost 87 pounds really makes me happy! It makes me happier yet that I have inspired my sister in law to lose 25 pounds so far and my brother has lost 20. It’s so exciting getting healthy together!

My good this morning was giving up the hard interval run I had planned for an easy bike ride with my Mom. But she had so much fun and the quality time was worth it!

Music is what makes me happy. It can give me a lift during a hard long run and there is no better way to spend an evening than playing guitar and singing with family and friends.

Something good that happened to me:

I had really bad girl cramps the other day, and was miserable… until I came downstairs and found that my husband had, before leaving for work, scribbled down on a piece of paper “Love you!” inside a big heart. Made me feel alllllll better. Aww. πŸ™‚

    Favorite almond milk:

I recently switched from soy milk in my smoothies to almond milk because I’ve read too much scary stuff about what soy might do to you, mimicing hormones and whatnot. I try to stick with the unsweetened ones without soy. I’ve also been trying coconut milk…so my favorite might be an almond milk/coconut milk combo!

The last good thing that “happened” to me: Today my parents came and hung out at my apartment for a change. They never visit since I live in a studio and they also live in the city, so it was a nice surprise!

A pre-work run always gets my good going! Since I recently found out I’m lactose intolerant, this could help too!

    2. My husband and my dog make me happy because they’re always able to make me laugh. My husband with his silly jokes and comments, and my dog because he’s just so weird and quirky.

Best thing ever? Smoothies with one cup almond milk, one heaping cup baby spinach, one banana and one tablespoon peanut butter. You’re welcome.

Yesterday I got my good going with a whole day spent with husband. We met friends in the morning, went to a museum by ourselves, had a late lunch, came home to play a board game, then watched a movie, and overall relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company. Perfect and good!

I got my good going by planning a camping trip for me and my hubby. He’s been wanting to go, but camping isn’t my favorite. So I sucked it up and surprised him with a trip!

My fridge is never without a container of vanilla (unsweetened) almond milk. Before I tried the vanilla I would add vanilla to my smoothies anyway. One less step.
