FitnessGlo Review (and Giveaway!): Or, That Time I Worked Out In the Driveway of the Beach House with Some Audio Yelling At Me

Disclosure: What follows is a sponsored post for FitnessGlo.

While at the beach last week, my friend Chaz came back from running some errands and walked outside to where the other guys were attempting to set up their own makeshift heater/siphoning system to get the hot water from the hot tub to the pool and asked where everyone was.

“Sarah and Tina are at the beach, and Theo’s working out in the driveway to some audio yelling at her.”

They couldn’t see my iPad, but it was propped up on the back of Sarah’s car, and I was doing a FitnessGlo workout. I actually joined their yoga site, YogaGlo, a few months ago, to have some awesome options for at-home yoga, so I was excited to have the opportunity to try out FitnessGlo for a review.

The site has a really clean layout, and it’s easy to navigate. Their goal is to make fitness simple, which I think so many people forget–and which is easy to when you’re reading about so many different styles of workouts on blogs and want to try them all. (Just me?)

Screen shot 2013-06-06 at 12.33.53 PM.png

You can choose by style, teacher, level and duration and then further drill down.

For example, at the beach, I knew I wanted an intense workout because I was feeling a little soft in my bathing suit, so I looked for a 30-minute HIIT class and got the HIIT class above.

201306061232.jpg

I also love that you can pick classes as short as five or ten minutes, which is great for a quick stretch or a little core work. (Things I’m not likely to do unless someone is telling me what to do.) On their yoga site, you can also pick from short meditations or short sequences for specific reasons, such as relaxation. /endtangent

I do wish you could sort by equipment or no equipment, though. The HIIT workout, for example, used weights, and I somehow forgot to throw a set of dumbbells into my beach bag.

The site also has a “Balance Tracker” which helps you track the balance of strength/cardio/stretching you’re doing. You can manually add your other workouts, so it takes into account more than just the FitnessGlo workouts you’re doing.

The golden blog review question: would I pay for this with my own cash money? Absolutely. I like the workouts and the ease of the site. It’s $12 a month, which is a fabulous price, and everyone gets a free 15-day trial. I’ve used it on my iPad, but you can also use it on an iPhone, stream it with an AppleTV (yes, I worship at the temple of Apple) or just use it on a computer.

And one of you gets a free 90-day membership! Comment below to tell me about the kinds of at-home workouts you do, and if you do better with someone telling you what to do or if you’re good at doing a workout on your own. Me? I will pin workouts until the cows come home, but I think I have actually done maybe…2 of them?

I do a ton of “at home” workouts as I travel for work. I am better at someone telling me to do, most definitely, but sometimes it is hard to find such opportunity in a hotel room/gym!

I pretty much only do stuff when someone is yelling at me to do it, so my at-home workouts are pretty limited to some planks / push-ups and foam rolling. Foam rolling is a workout, right? I mean, it hurts bad enough, and I’m using my triceps…

I need someone to YELL at me…I’m the worst at pushing myself. I tend to stick with fitness classes for this reason but it would be nice to have someone yell at me in the privacy of my own home.

I live in the middle of nowhere… so my only workouts are of the at-home variety. I have tons of DVDs and occasionally try out a new routine from a magazine, blog, or website. I also run on the roads to get out of the house. This sounds like a perfect website for someone like me!!

We recently moved into a new house and created our own workout room (yay!), but I avoid it when I don’t want to think about what to do (boo). When someone else is telling me what to do, I push myself so much harder and feel much better for it.

I’m a runner first and foremost, but I’ve gotten really good about being creative and doing crosstraining at home via free videos (primarily Tara Stiles yoga and 8 min ab/buns/arms routines…AWESOME and hysterical). Having the ability to mix up my at-home routine would be perfect!

I do pretty terrible on my own. No problem going for a run but anything else and I pretty much need someone pushing me through it! I think this would be awesome to try at home.

I would LOVE a 90-day membership to this site; the ease of working out at home and not having to sacrifice the quality of the workout, instruction or being able to mix-it up would be amazing. I’m the type of person that NEEDS someone telling me what to do when I’m working out. I love doing circuit training/HIIT and pilates workouts in the comfort of my own home. This would be great when I am away from my regular gym during the summer months!

At home I like to do exercises on my BOSU and stretch. Sometimes I do the Direct TV workouts, but I feel like you can’t count on them actually being worthwhile. Some are great and others are awful. Fitness Glo would be great so I’d always know my workout was worthwhile!

I’ve had the most success with Jillian Michaels dvds and breifly tried wiifit, but didn’t get that great of a workout from it. I’m super interested in Fitness Glo, but for a minnesota girl I’m more likely to try it in the winter when its cold and I don’t want to drive to far away gyms on bad roads.

I do alot of tabata style workouts at home. I feel like I get an intense workout in a short amount of time, which is usually my goal if I workout at home. I am pretty good at pushing myself, but I am sure if I had someone yelling at me I would push even harder.

I’ve done a range of at-home workouts but typically stick with DVDs for power yoga & strength/flexibility (ballet stretch, Physique 57) — if I try following a magazine article, I’ll probably fall asleep since it’s so early!

Usually at home I complete do the Insanity dvds or yoga videos. I always do better when I have structure with someone telling me what to do. This looks like a great program that I would love to try!

I am awful at working out with a plan of my own. I take forever to make a plan or think I can wing it. Not a solid workout plan. I need someone else to tell me what to do.

Would love to win a trial! Some mornings, I want to workout but don’t have time to get to the gym so I settle for a puppy-dog walk. This would be a great alternative to get in a bit more sweat!

I think I’m willing to push myself harder at home cause I won’t look stupid in front of anyone but me. I have a some DVD’s that I use, but this would be a great way to change things up a bit.

I have been a member of their YogaGlo website for a couple years and I love it. I definitely need some direction with my yoga practice or I get bored and don’t stick with it…or end up in child’s pose for 45 minutes. Not that I’ve ever done that…

I definitely need someone telling me what to do! It’s one of the reasons I like studio classes so much, actually. Someone is yelling at me if I slack! However, every once in a while I put together a workout and kick my own ass 🙂

I’ve always been a gym-goer who loved strength and circuit type classes. Since having my first baby 4 weeks ago, I have realized I need to discover a love for at-home workouts! FitnessGlo seems perfect to ease back into intense workouts while not having the pressure of getting to the gym 5 days a week.

Most of my at-home workouts involve body weight strength workouts, stretching and/or riding my indoor spinning bike. I’m pretty motivated to workout without any yelling, but my issue is that I end up doing the same thing over and over again. Would love to have access to a variety of videos to keep things fresh.

It depends on what kind of workout that I’m doing. If I’m lifting weights or doing Pilates then I am totally on my own and fine with that. If I’m doing cardio, kickboxing, or something like that I prefer some instruction. But all of my workouts are at home. I don’t have a gym membership.

So aside from my cardio machines & running with my kids outside – I love OnDemand workouts, as well as YouTube ones (like the Sarah Fit channel) which I stream to my tv, from my iPad & Apple TV……(yup, another apple lover here, lol)
