I will expand more later on this op-ed by Michael Pollan (I also want to review his In Defense of Food, which I finished last night), but I’ll say for now that I like the sentiment of this. Certain diseases are inevitable, but there are so many things that can be prevented thorough preventative care! Maybe eating healthier and paying for a gym membership is more expensive in the short run than the alternative, but in both time and opportunity costs (ie, LIFE) it absolutely pays for itself in the end.
