When Life Gets in the Way

I was supposed to go to the Junior League Homecoming party tonight—our first event of the year. Since I’m co-chair of our External Communications Committee, my committee and I have been working on the PR for this event for awhile. [Shameless plug: tickets are still on sale! It’s a fun open bar event that’s open to anyone. And if you’re a dude, you will be far outnumbered by pretty ladies in cocktail dresses.]

It was going to be the first night after the marathon I could stay out late and party with no worries of running the next morning or waking up for work. I was going to get to see my Junior League friends that I hadn’t seen all summer. Ashley’s husband was going to bring some cute, single guys.

But alas, I’m still sick. I went to the doctor this morning and even brought my cocktail dress in hopes that she’d tell me I was fine and that I’d go to work and change at the gym or at a friend’s place after work. But instead of:

I’m doing this:

(And almond butter and banana on an English muffin for breakfast.)

But while a yucky post-marathon virus is no fun, it’s not that big of a deal in the scheme of things. My blog buddy Emily (we met at HLS when we ran together and bonded over sensitive tummies while running) got hit by a car yesterday in Alexandria, Va. while she was getting ready to go away to Ohio to see family. She’s okay, but please go over there and leave her a comment wishing her a speedy recovery!
