On January 1, most people say “this is going to be my year.” But then they abandon their goals a few weeks into the year.
I made 2010 my year.
This is a long one, so read more after the jump..
January:
February:
I did my first giveaway on this blog.
I turned 27 and was totally okay with it. (I was definitely in quarter-life crisis mode on my 25th and 26th birthdays.)
I decided to run a marathon!
I went to a ball at The Plaza.
March:
I ran my second half-marathon, the NYC Half. I managed to take 20 minutes off my time in two months!
I got a new job! (I do social media for Woman’s Day; I used to work for a legal magazine and then I did some freelancing in between these two jobs.)
April:
Fit into my first size two since losing weight! (I didn’t say they’d all be deep!)
May:
Met Gretchen Rubin, author of the Happiness Project, a book that resonated with me this year
June:
Tamsin and Tina came to visit; I took my dad to see the U.S.S. Intrepid for Father’s Day, something he’d wanted to see for forever.
Did yoga on the Great Lawn (well, sorta) and met Ashley, who is now a good friend of mine
July:
It wasn’t all puppies and sunshine. I wrote about how I’d had stomach problems in the past, and then they came back with a vengeance. July wasn’t too exciting. Mostly just stomach issues and marathon training.
August:
Let’s just call this the month that I met the Internet.
I met Caitlin, when she came to my office the day before she was on The Today Show.
The next day, I went with a bunch of my favorite bloggers to watch her talk about Operation Beautiful on The Today Show.
Rebecca, Rebecca, Gabriela, Jess, Cynthia, me!, Sabrina and Tina!! Ashley was also there but had to leave earlier to get to work.
I went back to D.C. for a weekend, and met another of my favorite bloggers, the fannetastic Anne. Tamsin and I ran along the Potomac with her.
I flew to Chicago to meet a million other health bloggers at the Healthy Living Summit, and I ran 16 miles with a few of them along the lake in Chicago.
September:
The stomach issues continued; I struggled with a celiac scare. I had an endoscopy. (I finally found out I didn’t have celiac!!!!!)
I went to Hawaii to see Lindsay (and did a long run there with her!)
I ran my third half-marathon of the year (and life!); I killed it.
I was profiled in Woman’s Day!
October:
I ran a marathon!!!!!!!!!!! (And had a great weekend in Chicago with more of my favorite bloggers and my mom.)
I guess other stuff happened in October…but really, nothing else compares to finishing my first marathon. Nothing.
November:
I watched friends run the NYC Marathon. Again, nothing really compared to finishing the marathon.
December:
I moved from my quiet downtown apartment right to the heart of it all. I love it, but I don’t ever want to move in December again.
I hosted a cookie swap less than a week after I moved.
I saw the Nutcracker with my parents.
And then, on a cold, crappy day, I finished my last race to qualify me for the NYC 2011 Marathon.
(Did you get all the way to the bottom?)
You get a medal, and you get a medal…
2010 was the year that I think I really came into myself. I matured a ton this year, and I brought lots of great things and people into my life (there is not enough room on the internet to write about everyone amazing I met and “met” this year, but if you’re reading this, I’m glad you’re a part of my life) and also let go of some baggage. I’m really proud of everything I accomplished this year, and I can’t wait to see what I can do in 2011.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
What 2010 accomplishment are you the most proud of?
