Cooking for Bloggers

After this morning’s race, I had a bagel with cream cheese and almond milk latte from Whole Foods and then spent the afternoon cleaning up my apartment and relaxing.

Tina’s hotel was doing the free happy hour again, so I met her for a glass of wine before dashing out to Whole Foods to pick up ingredients for dinner with Tina, Ali, Gabriela and a quick visit with Heather. I used to be really nervous to cook for other people. I thought I was a terrible cook and my friends would go home and talk to each other about how crappy my cooking was.

I’ve gotten over that recently and now enjoy cooking for people. I’ve learned a lot more about cooking and I can take pride in it now. But cooking for other people that blog about food is a little nerve-wracking, still. So I kept things simple.

On the menu tonight:

Crackers

Cheese–Dubliner and Jarlsberg.

A baguette stuck in the oven with some olive oil and sea salt

A salad, courtesy of Gabriela.

And the main course: whole wheat shells, spinach and turkey sausage. I’d wanted to make this orecchiette with broccoli rabe, but Whole Foods was out of broccoli rabe, so I found this recipe with substitutions. (Gabriela’s version had tofurkey sausage.)

Ali, me and Bailey.

I love blog friends, and I love sleep. I think I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight.

  • So great to see you! I love your apartment because it's gorgeous, but also because it's extremely convenient for me to drive to as well! It's super close to me. :) And I really love Bailey.

  • Yay! Thank you again for having us. The food was fabulous and the company was awesome. I love Bailey & I love our family photo.

  • Thank you so much for having us last night, it was a lot of fun!! If Bailey disappears in the middle of the night...it wasn't me ;)

  • What a fun dinner party! I recently tried Dubliner cheese at a WF cooking demo and fell in love.

    PS- Bailey is adorable. :)

  • Everything looks delish! You look like such a good cook.. Also I love your dog.. If you don't mind me asking what do you do with him during the day?? I really want to adopt a dog but I work during the day and I am unsure about hiring a dog walker..

    • @Megan @ Megan Mumbles: I live about a mile from my office (moved close for that reason), so some days I walk him at lunch and some days I have a dog-walker. (I tell Bailey it's just his friend though, I don't want him thinking I'm paying someone to hang out with him.)

  • I saw some photos posted on Tina's website, and your view of the city looks gorgeous! Must be really neat to live there. Pasta is always a no fail, and I think people always enjoy it! Looks delicious. By the way, your dog looks SO adorable, soft and cuddly! :)

  • sounds like a fun evening! Congrats on the half marathon! what a beautiful day it was for running.

  • Cool name. never met anyone named Teodora before :) Congrats on the marathon, I always wanted to run one but my knees just couldn't take the stress so I had to give up running. Bummer.
