Two Runs and a Few Beers

Like I said the other day, I am so happy to be back on a training plan. I really thrive on them.

Saturday was my first “long run” of this training cycle. Jaz had a 45-minute “long run” on my schedule. After months of marathon training, I was pretty amused to see such a “short” run on my plan. Forty-five minutes? No problem.

I met up with the New York Junior League running group at the Central Park Boathouse. I’d taken the subway up to West 72nd Street, so I ran across the park to meet up with them for a four-mile group. As we climbed one of the rolling hills, one of the girls I was running with asked if I wanted to power up the next hill. A little friendly competition? Game on, girl.

After the run, we sat outside and had coffee. I’d wanted to leave so I could keep running, but I stayed and was social. I eventually ran the two miles straight to the bagel shop.

I came back, ate my bagel and took a bath in sweet, carb-and-endorphin-induced bliss.

It was in the high 50s in New York on Saturday, and so I started spring cleaning. Because it felt like spring, and apparently cleaning makes me really happy.

And then I headed out to Brooklyn for the lovely Emily‘s birthday. (She’s the one right next to me in this pic.) Her birthday was 70’s ski chalet-themed, which I clearly was not participating in.

Most of my favorite Tumblr ladies.

Selena looks very pretty.

After a fun time in Brooklyn, I headed back to Manhattan for Abby’s friend’s birthday. See the girl on my right? That’s my boss. Her and Abby have a mutual friend, whose birthday it was, and I found my job because Abby saw my boss post on Facebook that she was hiring. Anyway, they were out for that mutual friend’s birthday, and so I hung out with my boss on a Saturday night.

Yesterday, I did a little shakeout run, and I did not actually manage to shake any of the soreness out of my calves.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

  • Wow, I got a great new year having with your friends. Really a great memorable photo to be keep. I really love watching this one.

  • Looks like a fun weekend! Pretty cool you got to hang with your boss on a Sat night!

  • Just a "45 minute run", I love it! When I was really into my training plan for my last half marathon, that's what I would tell myself on weekday mornings to get my behind to the gym. It always worked!

  • I remember training for long races and anything under 10 miles was short- crazy how your mind and body just start going and it becomes routine! Good luck with the rest of your training :)

    • @heidi: It's pretty casual, but YES!!! This is actually also only our second run :) But it's awesome. You should start one at yours!

  • Saturday was so nice! I was recovering from my 11 mile run on Friday so went for a long walk by the beach. It can stay in the 50's, please!

  • Looks like you had fun, AND that you have the same idea as me to combine running with fun afterward :) Hope to get together soon for a run!
