Giving It All I Can

This is not related to the rest of the post, but this morning I tried this spinach feta and egg white wrap. It is not the spinach feta wrap from Starbucks that I spend nights dreaming about (no, seriously), but it was good. (New Yorkers, it’s from Chicken Deli. I couldn’t resist joining the offer order when I heard the name.)

I’m off to D.C. to run half marathon #11.

11’s my lucky number, so I should be more excited, but I’m sort of ambivalent about this actual race–which is not a fun feeling to have. My coworkers wished me luck as I left work, but I felt like a fraud accepting their good luck wishes.

I’m excited, as always, to toe the line, but I’m not expecting much. I’m going to run with Tina, who’s equally not feeling this race, and we’re going to run as hard as we safely can while still having fun, because that’s all we can do right now.

But…despite the fact that I’m not expecting much, I still couldn’t help but plug some race times into good ole’ McMillan.

He (personally, obviously) said I could run a 1:56 half tomorrow, based on my time from the Gridiron Classic. He’s clearly smoking crack, but I’ll be happy with anything under 2:00. Breaking 2:00 is still so new to me that it will still be exciting.

And that’s all I got. I didn’t train my hardest, and I’m not expecting a PR, but still hoping for the best and a fun race and weekend.

Good luck to everyone else running this weekend!

  • I'm with your mom! relax & have some fun. I think it's great that you & Tina are going to run it together. enjoy! xo

  • Omg. I am obsessed with the Spinach & Feta Egg White wrap at Starbucks. How is it so delicious??!?! Good luck!

  • Thanksgiving is a really social day for my family we bring our boyfriends/girlfriends and we all just sit around catching up for hours, last year we were there from 11am to 6pm. We eat pretty much anything, turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, deviled eggs, biscuits, potato salad, macaroni salad, and of course pie.

  • I hope you interpret this in a positive way and not in a self-promotional sort of way, but I wanted to share that I ran a half-marathon in December, knowing that I had a good level of fitness under my belt but also VERY aware that I didn't do any sort of training plan (unless you count the 12-mile trail run that I completed 6 weeks before the half-marathon). Anyway, my time pleasantly surprised me!
Hopefully you'll have a fun race and feel good about the overall experience.

  • Spinach & Feta? Two of my favorite things! I'll have to try that wrap soon.

    Good luck this weekend!

  • Hi Theodora You are an inspiration. I have often thought of doing a marathon myself. Maybe this will motivate me into action. Good luck and enjoy the experience,

  • Good luck!!! Sounds like you've got luck on your side [whether you're feeling it or not]- your lucky number, it's been beautiful [but also really hot] in DC the past week, and it's St. Patty's Day :D

P.S. Have you tried the new Sbucks wrap?! It's tasty!
