This week, all I’ve had on my mind has been the beach. It’s been really hot in NYC, and I just want to lay by the ocean.
Technically, I live on an island, but it’s not quite the same thing.
But, hey, at least I’m always near water.
This morning, I met Ashley and Laura for a run, after having a good deal of wine and cocktails with them last night.
We met around 9:30, and it felt so nice out.
“Guys, it’s such an awesome day for running!” I said as we started. Within minutes, we’d hit the river and it was no longer quite as pleasant. It had gotten really hot and sunny. We ended up running around 6 miles, and they were not easy ones. We stopped multiple times for water and each time looked at each other and waited for someone else to start running again.
We finally finished, and I realized I’m really going to have my work cut out for me marathon training through July and August. As usual. The only really good thing about running through the heat of the summer is how much easier it makes fall running. You really feel like you’re flying after slogging through all those humid runs.
I came back, got a bagel (obviously), and went to lay out for a while to get some sun, when I got an email from a friend asking if I wanted to go sailing.
Obviously.
I hustled to Hoboken, where her fiancee’s boat was docked, faster than I have ever hustled anywhere, and hopped on board.
It was so relaxing, and such a great way to spend a sunny summer afternoon.
GIVEAWAY WINNER!
You probably want to know if you won my NatureMade/Athleta giveaway, huh? Well, here is the winner.
Jasmine, can you email me at theodora.blanchfield at gmail.com with your address/phone number so we can get the prize out to you?
Also, I got more entries on this giveaway than I ever have on any other. What did you like so much about this one, so I know what kind of giveaways to do in the future?
For those of you who didn’t win, Ashley is giving away the same package.

i think you got so many entries because you had 3 questions!
@annie s: That's probably true, too!
It looks so pretty out there! congrats on getting through the run.
I've never been sailing. Looks fun!
Its wonderful place and those photos are beautiful… good job.
What a nice way to spend the day. Were you inspired to jump from the boat and do some open water swim, lol?
Sharon
@Sharon: Not even a little bit :)
When I lived in Chicago one of my friends would always invite a big group out on their boat...best-time-ever!
You live such a glamourous life! I'm sure it's not as glam as it looks...but it looks glam!!!
I thought the giveaway was great because it had everything in it that I needed and wanted - beach towel, beach bag etc...and I REALLY fancied the Athleta gift card so I could get a new outfit for my forthcoming half marathon. Never mind, eh???
@Cathryn Ramsden: Definitely not as glamourous as it may look occasionally, but I do try to have a good time :)
Your pictures are gorgeous. I agree with you, running this weekend has been ugly. It is hot hot that it is hard to power through.
Um, did you just give out that woman's email address? Might want to take that down ASAP for her privacy.
@Judith: Crap, thanks for the heads-up. I edited it out and then put up the wrong pic by accident.
There were lots of boats out there this weekend. Glad you had fun!
