In Rare Form

“Weight loss maintained for a while? Careful whatcha brag about as that’s precisely the time you’ll hit a road-bump and encounter a struggle.”

Wise words from MizFit.

Of course, I blog the other day about having an awesome training week…and this week is already going less than swimmingly on the training front.

I cut Tuesday’s run from 5 to 3 because I just didn’t have it in me mentally or physically.

I slept in yesterday after going out for drinks Tuesday night. I was exhausted and told myself I’d do it at night. I got out of work late, had more work to catch up on…and didn’t run. Fail.

This morning, I apparently missed a gorgeous morning outside and ran on the treadmill in the little apartment gym in my building. Another shortened run because I woke up too late, but I got in four decent tempo miles and learned I actually do have time to run before my early meetings on Thursday–if I have to. (It’s usually my rest day.)

Work was balls-to-the-wall to try to finish as much as I could since I’m taking tomorrow off.

I finally got home, and this lovely lady was waiting at my apartment with another lovely lady.

We went to Rare, which is pretty close to my apartment, but I’d never tried it. Jocelyn and Meredith met us there.

It’s actually in a Hilton, but has more personality than you’d expect from a restaurant in a chain hotel.

I don’t eat much red meat–which started out intentionally to lose weight and now has just sort of happened–and I’d usually be happy to get a turkey burger, but I felt like I couldn’t go to a burger joint without getting a burger, so I got their plain organic burger.

And the table split this fry sampler with regular fries, sweet potato fries and waffle fries.

Mm, condiments. There was one that had some honey, maple syrup and all of Elf’s other food groups that was ridiculously good, especially with the sweet potato fries.

I’m going to sleep so Tina and I can hop on a bus to Boston tomorrow for the Healthy Living Summit, where I’ll be speaking Saturday.

Favorite burger? (Also, how do you order your burgers? I usually go for medium.) And are you going to HLS?

  • I'm a big fan of Mel's Burger Bar and Five Napkin Burger, I don't eat red meat often but these places are great!

  • Wish I was going to HLS--next year!
Going to a family cook-out tomorrow and my dad's fabulous burgers are on the menu!
    Happy Weekend.

  • We've all had those weeks of less-than-stellar workouts. Don't beat yourself up too much. Just get back on track tomorrow (once you've finished digesting that delicious-looking bucket of sweet potato fries.) And good luck at the Summit! Something tells me it won't be hard to get back on track there.

  • I actually like my burgers well done. I had one last night. Jamaican Jerk burger so it was with pineapple, and I ate it without the bun. Totally in the habit of that. And a side of sweet potato fries! :) Good luck with your speaking!

  • I looooooooove sweet potato fries. My absolute favorite recovery meal is a turkey burger with cheddar cheese on a whole wheat bun and sweet potato fries. NOMNOMNOM!

  • I don't usually eat beef burgers - but if I can get one organic/well made, I'll try it. I usually go for chicken or veggie burgers.

  • Oh, that Carla. She's one smart lady...

Burger: medium rare. Prefer mine still a bit pink.

I'm excited to hear more about your experience at the conference. I'm getting giddy about attending FitBloggin' next month, so I'm a bit jealous of all the recent conference tweets this month!
