MCM Training: Week 9 Recap

WOO!

I don’t know what I had to do to get an epic, but I’m not complaining.

And this is the first week in a few that I am ridiculously happy with my training, especially since work has been really intense lately.

Although, please note, my actual mileage was 39.56. DailyMile didn’t get the memo that I snuck last Monday’s two miles in to count toward the previous week.

So let’s get to some recappin’, eh?

Monday: 2 sneaky miles

Tuesday: 3 miles. Do you know how happy I was to see this on my plan? A short run during marathon training is like Christmas in July.

Wednesday: 8 miles (before work, WOO MID-DISTANCE MILES BEFORE WORK), with 3 at tempo. This was really freakin’ humid, but I fought through and emerged a sweaty beast at the end.

Thursday: I love rest days. And lamp.

Friday: Had 9 on the plan but got out of work much later than anticipated, so did Saturday’s planned 3.

Saturday: Saturday was the only day I didn’t stick to the mileage I planned, but knowing I had 18 miles planned for the next day, I was afraid to push that little bit more, and was pretty sure I didn’t have it in me. It’s hard to tell where that line of “this is good pushing yourself” and “you might get hurt if you push yourself” is, but I was so worn out, that I’m pretty sure this was the latter.

Sunday: Sunday is the kind of run that made me really glad I had a blog so I could tell you all how awesome my run was. 18 miles of awesomeness, with some hills thrown in.

I was kind of nervous about last week’s training, but I’m really satisfied with how I tackled it. This week looks like another intense one, and I’m hoping I can make another solid week happen again this week. I have 20 planned for this weekend, but I’m going on a wine tour on Saturday. The last time I did a wine tour the day before a long run, I got really lightheaded.

Should I run: at the true crack of dawn Friday, after work Friday or pretty damn early Saturday? What would you do? And how was your week o’training?

  • Congrats on your Epic week of running! Great job on getting those runs done. Daily Mile logged me at Impressive this week and that made me smile so I can imagine how being Epic must feel. I hit a 16 mile long run on Sunday and it reassured me that I can do it! Good luck with hitting your 20 this weekend. I think I would get up super early one day to knock it out.

  • I vote crack of dawn on Friday! That'll be us tomorrow AM -- it's not so bad, and once your'e done, just think of how much more freedom you'll have this weekend!

    PS great week of training!
PPS we ran 4 miles today and it TOTALLY felt like Christmas in July. haha

  • I would do it early on Saturday. Think how much more fun the wine will be while your celebrating a 20 mile run!! Also, I want daily mile to tell me my training was epic. It tells me nothing other than the miles I ran. Sad day.

  • Great week! I would run at the crack of dawn on Friday. I've been doing all my long runs during the week before work and I can't tell you how awesome it is to not have to worry about a huge long run during the weekend. I have 16-18 miles on the schedule for tomorrow morning and even though it's going to suck sitting in the office all day afterwards, it's going to be awesome when I don't have to worry about it this weekend.

  • You should do it at the crack of dawn Friday because I am doing a 20-miler then before work too! We can mentally support eachother! I'm so not sure how this will go...!

  • I would do it early Saturday. I don't think I could get up at the pre-crack of down to do a long run and then work. I need a nap or time to stretch, clean myself and put on compression. And then there's the bonus of the guilt-free indulgence during the affair!

My training was just fine - missed a run for ab/shoulder soreness of all things but made it through 19 miles (a PDR!).

  • Great week of running! I would definitely take getting up early on Saturday - I wouldn't want to be up that early on a Friday, and I am not an afternoon runner. Like whatsoever.

  • Awesome job training! It's best feeling to know you did what you said you would do.
Run on Saturday before the wine tasting, then you can enjoy the wine with nothing hanging over your head.
