How to Pick a Turkey Trot

Ask Facebook friends if they think you should do a race or just run on your own.

Solicit opinions.

Realize that you rarely turn down an opportunity to race, and that you typically spend almost that long, if not that long, getting to a race anyway.

Learn this one’s a hilly bitch.

Learn this one’s kinda far.

This one? This one will do.

I’m used to race monopoly (coughNYRRcough) or race peer pressure (coughLauracough). This “picking my own race” thing is weird.

Are you doing a turkey trot tomorrow? How do you pick races?

  • We're doing our own. Three Brits (Pilgrims) and three people from Indian (Indians)...how very fitting, eh? And maybe some Americans if I can encourage hard enough. Out for a run/walk/whatever and then a very British tea & toast breakfast.

    Can't wait.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  • i'm doing my own in central park tomorrow - maybe i'll see some balloons i can't believe NYRR doesn't have one.

  • I'm doing a turkey trot in New Orleans tomorrow and I'm so excited because I've never done one! It's just one of those cool things like a midnight New Year's Eve race.

  • wish they did turkey trots in UK, they all look so fun! I have just organised to do a friendsgiving on sunday after being inspired by everyones thanksgiving recipes!

  • Happy Thanksgiving!
There was only one TT option in town and it's not really in town. So...I'm going to run my own.

  • I am doing a 3.14 Pie Race. I did it lash year and was fun. I picked it because it wasn't too far from my house, I could drive there, and not pay for parking.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I am planning to be in NY next year for a race. Help me pick one. :-)

  • LOL, I love how you chose. I used to have a hard time finding local races in NJ when we were in college and I was home for breaks. Butler is "pretty close" (half hour) to where my parents are I probably would have gone for that one if I were home. Instead I'm heading down to the same park I ran the mustache dasche last Saturday to go do a 5K in about 2 hours. yay! There's about 6 to choose from all within 30 mins of me here in Seattle!

  • I ran 3.14 in the Chicago Suburbs for the second Thanksgiving in a row. Not for the calorie deficit, or for training purposes. Nope; I do this race because a) I run it with awesome friends and b) you get A PUMPKIN PIE at the finish line. (Get it? 3.14 - pi?)
