I left work tonight POSITIVELY ECSTATIC for the next 11 days.
They will be filled with friends and family, New Jersey and St. Croix. (Two very similar places, obviously.)
I left work feeling a little sad that I wasn’t fully in the Christmas spirit because I spent so much time at my desk this month.
And then I looked up and saw this.
And walked home, past Madison Square Park, understated in white Christmas lights.
I got home and opened some friends’ Christmas cards.
And saw my sweet little Christmas tree.
And thought of all the ways I’d celebrated this month:
A Junior League Christmas thing.
I did plenty of celebrating, but it won’t really be Christmas until I’m with my family. Given recent current events (Sandy, Newtown) and my own recent struggles, I’m going to hug them a little closer, put down my iPhone (a little bit) and enjoy every damn second.
And watch Elf everyday.
Oh, and start and finish all of my shopping this weekend. Oops.
What’s your favorite part of the holidays? Any fun travel plans next week?
No idea why I chose Frank Sinatra lyrics to name my last post on this…
As I mentioned in my last post, I've really been going through it with headaches.…

I have been thinking about this post for a while—on why diet culture is unhealthy…
I woke up this morning already feeling anxious. (Yay!) My standard iPhone alarm is set…
I read The Midnight Library over the weekend, and I need to talk about it.…

The recent events are really a reminder to hug your family a bit closer and really appreciate the time that you have with them. I'm watching my grandparents' health get pretty bad and sometimes it's hard to talk to them, but I try to remind myself to enjoy this time that I have with them because when it's gone, I'll miss it. But we're trying to get them in the Christmas spirit so my mom and her siblings put up their tree last weekend.
Enjoy your next 11 days! These next few days will give you time to really get in the Christmas spirit. And how perfect to be able to walk home and see all the lights just in time for this little break!
2012 has been rough for my family in a lot of ways (and really great at times as well) so I'm definitely planning to hold everyone a little closer over the holidays. Enjoy the break and Happy Holidays to everyone!
I hope you have a fantastic holiday. These next 11 days sound fantastic for you!
I am finally in NJ with my mom and the rest of my family, and so grateful to be here. My sister and I were talking about how we feel like we have been crying since Sandy hit; bad news just kept coming. It feels different this year; I was dying to be home, and I really am trying to be more present and thankful than ever.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Happy Christmas, Theodora!!! It is definitely a year to hug a little closer. I'm off to do just that.
Enjoy the holidays and your beach trip!
2012 is behind and happy to start 2013!
