Happy RunDisney Weekend!

This post is dedicated to Laura, who emailed me this morning to see if I was okay because I didn’t blog last night. I’m okay, mom!

More than okay.

I’m in NYC this weekend, but I am so freaking excited for everyone running Disney races this weekend.

The Disney Half was my first half, so Disney races hold a special place in my heart.

I ran the Princess Half last year, and it was a ton of fun, too!

So when I woke up this morning and saw my Twitters and Instagram flooded with posts from Disney, it made me really happy. A huge congrats to my girl Jen from New Balance who finished her second half this morning!

I don’t think I ever blogged about it, but I was seriously considering doing the Goofy Challenge this morning. For those of you unfamiliar: you run the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday. I thought it would be an awesome challenge to cross off my (fitness) bucket list before I turned 30. However, Disney races don’t come cheap–this challenge would have ben $300+ before flights and hotels, so I bagged it. This time.

MY GIRL VALERIE IS RUNNING THE FULL TOMORROW! I am so freaking excited for her. Go wish her luck. It’s her first!

Half training for the win. I ran 3 easy miles this morning in the fog and overcast weather. (I have 10 on deck for tomorrow.) I wasn’t feeling running for awhile after MCM, but oh baby, am I back. And I’ve been so much happier this week for it, too.

So, I have a few questions for you today.

What’s your spring goal race??

Have you ever/would you ever run a Disney race?

I was chatting with a friend last night about running and my blog. She said she thought I should make it a little clearer for y’all to see how I went from running a 35-minute 5k to a 4:04 marathon. I also plan on making my weight loss story a little clearer–anything else you want to see here, either topic-wise or organization-wise?

  • I am DYING to run Disney. Like DYING. I've always wanted to run, but I can't justify a half, I'll have to do the whole shebang. Which means I have to run a marathon first ;) And with my family, it will be worked in to a vacation, when baby girl is a little older. Big dreams, small bank!

This spring is sticking with 5Ks though, Cupid Chase Feb 9th (first race in NYC!) with the JFK Runway Race April 14th. Yup. A 5K. On the runway. Pumped.

  • My spring goal race is the Rock 'n' Roll DC Half Marathon. I ran it 2 years ago before it was RNR and LOVED it (in fact my time there is still my half PR), and I'm really hoping to PR this year.

I have never run a Disney race, and I'm not sure I really want to. A) They're expensive B) The princess theme isn't really my thing, although I can totally see how it would be fun if it IS your thing.

    Drinks soon!

    • @Shannon: They are definitely REALLY expensive, especially when the travel is factored in--but tons of fun! I didn't think I was so into the princess thing, but I half-assed it and it was fun.

      Drinks very very soon!

  • I would love to do a Disney race. I've been eyeing the Princess half for years but haven't taken the plunge yet (cost and motivation to train for a March half being the major factors). My goal race this spring is Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. In my head, I'd like to finish around 1:34. It's only 2 minutes and change faster than my 10 miler PR, but that course was down hill so I know I have some work to do.

  • I've been interested in the Disney races, but have reservations because of the the price, besides the race what is the registration paying for? The Lululemon half is expensive but they give you a bunch of stuff, including a concert, a group yoga class on the beach at sunset, delicious brunch, sandals, massage, shorts (and if you register early you get them before the race). I could justify that cost. The Disney races look like a lot of fun though, especially if you go with a bunch of friends.

  • My goal race this year is suppose to be Shamrock Half, but running has felt kind of blahh to me lately. I love it and always will, but just haven't found the motivation to run faster. I'm still chasing a sub 2:00 half and it's been a tough road for me.

I don't think I'd like to run Disney. I hate crowds and humidity. And it's way too much money!!

  • Your Tink costume is TOO CUTE. Get out of here with that!

I would LOVE to run a Disney race. Disneyland has been my happy place since before I was born. Literally. My mom went on Space Mountain when I was in utero. She pressed herself against my dad so they *wouldn't see she was pregnant*. Um...

  • I'm totally jealous of all the Disney tweets today - I ran it last year (my first half!) and had a blast. I was supposed to run WDW this weekend, but slacked on training, so I deferred to next year; HOWEVER, I'll be running the Princess Half next month, so there's a silver lining to it all. :)

  • I've been looking at all the Disney Half marathon recaps and it looks like such a fun race...I definitely want to do it some year, but it's really expensive!

I would love to hear more about how you went from running a 35 minute 5k to a 4:04 marathon. I have run a few half marathons and marathons but if anything, I feel like I have gotten slower. I'm running a half in March and hope to break two hours, but it would be a big PR for me.
