For seven years in D.C., I never felt like I was part of a community.
I had lots of friends, but all from different groups, and I wasn’t part of something that united me with people with common interests.
A key part to my happiness in New York is being part of multiple communities where I feel comfortable and accepted and have things in common with people.
Running. Blogging. Junior League.
After my run yesterday, I met up with Laura for a drink (or three?) before heading over to Leticia’s to hang out with a big group of runners and drink sangria and eat guac.
Go to Agave. They have the best margaritas ever.
After staying up chatting until 2am with my friends, I had a hard time rallying this morning to meet up with a group of friends for a run this morning. We were meeting by the Apple store on 5th Ave and running to Queens for brunch. Thanks to Kristin for organizing!
I ran with Ashley the entire time and we chatted and caught up.
We ran to Queens Comfort for a fun brunch. Best part about this place? It’s BYOB!
I had the Egg McRuffin: bechamel, smoked bacon, cheddar and fontina on an English muffin with TATER TOTS.
It was such a fun low-key weekend, and I’m really grateful for such an awesome running community in New York.
What sort of communities are you involved in?
No idea why I chose Frank Sinatra lyrics to name my last post on this…
As I mentioned in my last post, I've really been going through it with headaches.…
(tw for diet culture talk—mostly how it's BS, but how it's affected me, too) This…
I have been thinking about this post for a while—on why diet culture is unhealthy…
I woke up this morning already feeling anxious. (Yay!) My standard iPhone alarm is set…
I read The Midnight Library over the weekend, and I need to talk about it.…

I love the running community in Bozeman. There are also a great group of people at CrossFit Bozeman.
@Rachel: My dad went to Montana State - Bozeman!
That Egg McRuffin needs to get in my face like NOW.
I joined Team In Training when I moved to San Fran in 2008, purely to make friends. It was such an awesome experience that now I'm on my 3rd season and love the group of people you meet through each season. Makes you feel part of a family!
I also really love the running community! I wouldn't have met many of my friends, my husband or have so much in common with some of my co-workers who are also runners. We just get each other!
Running is an awesome physical activity which keeps you fit as well as active. It does boost your energy to next level.Great to know these type of communities are existing to enjoy social gathering and also health conscious.
Does the military community help? In the last 5 years I have lived in 4 different countries and 3 states so it's hard meeting lasting friends. We move way too much but that is about to slow down. I was thinking about joining a running club here in Colorado but the times they run interfere with when I have to work :(
*count. Not *help. It's early.
I love runners, there's just a great bond that comes with an intense workout. Hoping to meet new runner friends here in NYC soon! =/
I also love the mom community in the neighborhood. Babies make friends and we get adult talk. And I don't feel so crazy when I learn other babies steal food off of their parents' plates either
It's pictures like that, of brunch, that make me jealous I don't live in a more metro area. Blerg. Anyway, I've lived in my city for 8 years, and my aunt just recently asked if I felt a part of the community. I could have never said it about where I lived before but I didn't hesitate to say yes. The tell tale sign is I have friends outside of work and see people out and about. Running has a bit part of it, and every year, I feel more and more a part of that community. It's awesome.
How do you BYOB to brunch in Queens when you ran there? That's a lot of carrying!
@Alyssa: Kristin lived near the place, so she picked up bubbly from her house!
I'm just getting to know the NYC running community, but you are right - it is awesome! Having a community of people who get what you are trying to achieve and why it's important to you is amazing and encouraging. Here's to more brunches :)
@fiona: so many more brunches!
