Marathon #4, I’m Coming For You!

I’ll be running my fourth marathon this year.

The decisions for 1, 2 and 3 were all pretty easy.

1: Chicago: a friend was doing it. Done.

2. New York: I’d done 9+1 the year prior.

3. Marine Corps: My dear friend Julie was doing it as her first marathon, and I couldn’t not also do it.

There’s a handful of marathons on my someday list: Big Sur, Boston (um, maybe once I hit the next AG), Flying Pig, something international, maybe Dublin, but I wasn’t dying to do any of those this year. I wanted something else on the East Coast.

So…this happened this afternoon.

I’ve heard Wineglass is a great, fast course, made for PRs. And I still have a score to settle with sub-4.

Downhill elevation where PRs are made of…

There’s no goal you can’t do…

At Wineglaaaaaass!

(No?)

I’ve also heard a gazillion people are doing it, so I’m looking forward to hanging with running buddies before and after.

So!

Questions. Are you running Wineglass? Have you run Wineglass? Are you running a fall marathon?

  • I'm running it for my first marathon! I did the half last year and loved it. Really well organized and a beautiful, scenic course with the leaves changing. Corning has lots of cute shops and restaurants. Good luck!

  • Yay, congrats on signing up for your FOURTH marathon - what an inspiration! I'm chugging along training for my first half marathon and hope it doesn't kill me :)

  • Darn. You should do big sur and then you can come and stay with me! Nothing like Internet strangers :) but excited about wineglass for you! Like the name!!

  • Have you ever considered Steamtown? I keep setting PRs there. 3 other friends have too. It is a fast course. Great BQ course.

  • I'm really really tempted to run one! I have actually been thinking seriously about Dublin... Just whether I will train seriously over the summer!

    • From my past three, I've found that summer running definitely sucks but it helps you feel like you're flying once it cools down!

  • Congrats on signing up for your 4th marathon. I ran Wine glass a couple years ago 2010. The course is pretty flat point to point course. The course is extremely rural running on back roads passing cows and horses. The medal is awesome made out of wine glass, when I ran they also gave women's purple tech shirts so I loved that. Enjoy it and you will get that sub 4h!

  • YAY, I am psyched!

And you should do Steamtown too - Maureen is right that it's awesome and very fast.

  • Wineglass looks awesome! I'm running the Richmond Marathon again this fall. I didn't find it very hilly but other people did so my memory might be off, but I hope to PR there. I really love the course, organization and crowd support in Richmond.

  • Yay Wineglass! That's on my list of races I want to run someday (maybe next year. No 26.2 for me this year). Good luck!

  • Yay! I already tweeted you about this. We also need to chill at the JL sometime and meet in person because we run the same pace pretty much and should run together. I'm trying to figure out a good time trial half marathon for early September...apparently that is easier said than done.
