Relentless Forward Motion

I met Heather from Relentless Forward Commotion at the Runner’s World Half. I admired her toughness and her passion for running.

But even more, I admired her blog name, and what it implied. Just. move. forward.

In life, and in fitness, so much of success comes from just pushing through and getting yourself to the other side.

Because you have no other choice.

It’s this daily commitment to chipping away at your goals, one day at a time, until you’ve knocked a huge block off.

This strength challenge hasn’t been easy for me. I’ve been busting my ass at Uplift, taking several classes a week, picking up heavier weights, pushing myself harder.

I wasn’t seeing results, and I was frustrated. I talked to Michelle, began looking at the situation objectively, and started moving forward. It was all I could do.

In class yesterday, Kat said something about us being almost done with the challenge, that she could see the weariness on our faces.

But I’m just hitting my stride. I kept moving forward, and something finally clicked.

BRB, time to go to sleep so I can keep getting stronger. This feels like the part of every marathon training cycle when it goes from being really hard to being really satisfying. This is when the fun happens. When I’m zeroed in on my goal, and all I can think of is the reasons I can, not the reasons I can’t.

Am I the only weirdo who feels this shift – when you really go big and zero in on your goals?

I remember when strength training was something I *had* to do to supplement my running. At some point, I felt that shift too...now I can't get enough of it. It is so satisfying to be able to easily move weights that were once impossible. I wish more people would see the CAN side of fitness (and heck, life!) instead of the "can't". We are all capable of so much more than we think. Happy to see you are in a great mindset...now keep pushing!!!

(and thanks for the shout out!!)

  • Ahh i like the comparison to marathon training, you are right that happens in pretty much every cycle!

  • Every time I start making progress as a result of actual effort instead of pure luck or suitable predisposition, I get really encouraged to push even further. This goes for anything in life, be it good nutrition, fitness & exercise, work or whatever. I guess we really have in us all we need to push forward, and that initial push brings about a chained progress.
Hitting a plateau can be really frustrating, but like many other things, it takes time and effort to see change.
    Stay strong and keep going!

  • I love that click! When it happens, I always try to figure out what brought it on. What was it for you?

  • You're not alone.... I feel the same CLICK although it can take me a while to get there. I finally feel like i'm getting back into my fitness / workout groove after the holidays and vacation. Yes, it took me until the end of February, but i feel it now and I'll keep going :)

  • Seriously like I said you've been killing it -- I can only imagine the results that will ultimately come! I feel like with things like this -- for me I've always noticed the changes seemingly overnight. Like I went to bed one way, and woke up wonder woman. Pretty awesome -- and I bet that happens for ya! ;)
