Duh.
I rarely intend to do two-a-days, but sometimes two awesome workout opportunities come up in one day that I can’t say no to.
Like today.
The fabulous Emily had emailed me last week to see if I wanted to try out the November Project with her. UM, yes. I heard the (hot) founders speak at the Runner’s World marathon party and I loved the idea – a free fitness movement started in Boston to help people stay in shape during the cold winter months. The founders love high-fiving, hugging and cursing. Oh yeah, and running.
NYC is PASSIONATE about its fitness (or obsessive, whatever), so I was wondering when NP would start here!
Emily, totally borrowing from your Twitter, mmmk?
I’m not sure what I expected, but the workout certainly got my heart rate up and got me giggling, all before 7:30 am.
We did three different circuits of figure-eight loops of the park (according to their blog, at least. All I remember was trying not to trip up the stairs) with intervals for step-ups and push-ups in between.
And then we did a relay race, NBD.
It was a super fun way to start the day and get a good workout in. It is the exact opposite of convenient for me – the whole adventure took more than 2 hours with travel, and I took a cab there. Still worth it. Apparently I am going back already next week, because by the time I got to work, the girl who runs our NYJL run club had seen my Instagram and sent out an email to run club saying we should go. Okay, fine 🙂
And then I went to SoulCycle after work with a coworker, thanks to a sweet gift card from Gia for my birthday. (If you have friends who do – or want to do – SoulCycle, a gift card is maybe the best thing you could ever get them.) We took String’s class. It was lots of hip-hop, including some throwback tunes, so it was awesome to rock out, too. By the end of the workout, my calves were shaking, they were so tired.
Successful two-a-day.
Do you ever do two-a-days? Fave combination? My favorite two-a-day combo ever is running + yoga, for sure.
No idea why I chose Frank Sinatra lyrics to name my last post on this…

This isn't relevant to your post. But, throwing it out there - the guy to your left is pretty hot! Ha! Who says every comment has to be running related? :)
@Sokphal @ Life as a Classroom: AGREED. And I think not single :/
I want to start doing two-a-days! I feel like it would really take me to the next level!!
I totally did a two-a-day today. I'm working through Shaun T's T25 program and missed my workout yesterday. So today I did 2 workouts for a total of T50. It's only been 3 hours and I'm already feeling the soreness set in.
I did a 2-a-day today too - Pilates this AM then Soul Cycle in the evening. I can't decide if a Pilates + Soul or a yoga + running day is more my favorite. Equally opportunity sweater over here I guess.
You are a far tougher woman than I for i will probably never have the energy or will to try a two-a-day day. More power to you and those who can and do.
HAHA! I am doing one today! And as I finished my morning run I thought "This might be a good blog post." My two a day isn't because of awesome fitness opportunities, but basically because I couldn't waste a morning where it's already 40 degrees when I wake up at 5 to run! :-)
I don't often do two a days unless you count doing a quick yoga session after a tough run. One time I did an 8 mile run in the morning and then ended up playing ultimate frisbee for a couple hours later that day. Bad life decision! I wasn't that used to long distance running at the time and ended up totally exhausted.
I am so happy to see the November Project hit NYC! It's such a fun (and funky) group and I definitely need to get back to the one we have in DC. Similar situation to yours, the location is never that convenient, but always a good time once you're there. Your post is motivating me to put it back on my calendar : )
Great motivation! I've been slacking this week but plan to knock out a couple two-a-days the rest of the week! Run + yoga is my favorite workout combo too.
I love a run in the morning then some sort of weight lifting in the evening like CF!
