One of the best perks of my job (and life) is trying out new fitness classes and events. I quit Equinox nearly two years ago, but I don’t really miss it. I miss its fanciness, but truth be told, I was NOT using it often enough to make it worth it.
Even with quite a few comped classes, I probably still spend more on working out than I did then (and I thought that was a lot!), but I’m getting my money’s worth. I’m currently a member of NYHRC to use their pool, but I really like that it’s month-to-month.
But I digress. I wanted to tell you about some awesome workouts I’ve done lately, and offer all of you a free workout option!
I have this really weird obsession with TRX, and I’d heard amazing things about Flex’s TRX.
My old coworker Jess (far right pic) does the PR for Flex, so I asked her if my coworkers and I could try it out. Amy and I tried it out two Fridays ago, and OMG.
OMG: the studio is gorgeous, and OMG: TRX is HUMBLING. I love it because I immediately feel more toned and like I’ve gotten the best workout of my life, but it is HUMBLING because you shake like no freaking other if you aren’t ridiculously strong. No matter what, you get an amazing core workout. Because of the lack of stability with the straps, you are always engaging your core muscles in an effort to stabilize yourself.
The best part of the class was when it was over, although I was sore for days after. I sort of really want TRX straps for my apartment now. They’d totally go in a small studio apartment, right?
Peloton
This is the second time I’ve tried Peloton. (They officially open to the public tomorrow.)
They have their own fancy, fancy bikes that you can stream the workouts on from anywhere in the world. The first time I’d tried the class, they’d sold out of the bikes, so we were on regular bikes. Yesterday, we were on the fancy Peloton bikes, and people, it is an experience like no other. They are like BUTTER. You get such a smooth ride. Check out our review on DailyBurn today.
And speaking of the DB, we’re running a fun promotion right now: Burn for Summer.
If you’re thinking of getting in shape for the summer, we have a free program you can follow from now until May 26. You can follow along with us on YouTube, and you’ll get one workout a day, six days a week, for the duration of the program.
What’s your favorite workout lately?

You should TOTALLY get an at-home TRX system. They have 20-30% discount codes running around all the time, so it comes to less than $150, and when you bag it up, it takes up less space than a pair of running shoes. Promise.
PLUS you can take it with you when you travel. Strength training anywhere and everywhere.
hmmm
i've been doing TRX w/ my trainer for the past 2 years and totally dig it as well -- such a good burn! i need to get back into it more as i don't train with him as regularly as i used to, so i'm def looking for options in NYC.
Um, I want to try all of these with you! One more reason I need to get back to NYC ASAP!
TRX looks to be an awesome workout system, its definitely worth your money as you definitely feel a hard work out, minutes after its done. Peloton looks promising as well, being able to stream workouts is a definite bonus.
