I don’t know about you, but I really like reading day in the life posts. I read blogs for a multitude of reasons: to be informed, to be entertained…but also to get a glimpse into someone else’s life.
My girl Anne recently wrote a really interesting behind-the-scenes post, so I thought I’d play along with my day yesterday. I started this last night…and then fell asleep.
Like most of you probably, every day looks a little different, but here’s a snapshot into what a day looks like for me sometimes.
5:40: Alarm goes off. I mutter every curse in the world under my breath under my covers and finally get moving a few minutes later. Chug some Vega pre-workout to wake up. You know I usually (literally, as my coworkers have pointed out) sip the Kool-Aid and drink our DailyBurn stuff, but I was still feeling congested last night and not hungry so I just had a protein shake for dinner and wanted some extra calories this morning. Get ready in the dark as not to wake Bailey.
6:13: Leave for gym. I take special note of this because I’m curious how long it takes door-to-treadmill even though my gym is super close. I am a reluctant morning person so I want to make this time as short as possible to maximize every possible second of sleep.
6:20: Feet on treadmill.
6:20-6:30: Warm up. This would usually be at a 6.0, but I’m still getting back to normal, so I trotted along at 5.5.
6:30-6:53: Gallop along at 6.6mph, which Jess has determined to be my temporary 70% effort.
6:53-6:55: Take it up to 7.0, then 7.2.
6:55-7:05: Hallelujah, it’s cooldown time! I listened to an awesome playlist from Lacey Stone the entire time and it makes things go by quickly.
7:15-8:00: Get ready. I could pretend I’m low-maintenance here…but that’d be a lie. I knew I had Junior League tonight so I wanted to spend a little extra time getting ready.
8:00-8:15: Walk Bails, have eggs microwaving while walking. Yes, microwaving. Ashley taught me this trick a few years ago, and I use it on weekday mornings sometimes. Throw eggs + brown rice + truffle oil in a Tupperware and skeddadle.
8:20: HALLELUJAH IT’S COFFEE TIME. Praise the eight-pound six-ounce baby Jesus for Dunkin Donuts.
8:30 – 9:30: Therapy. Yesss! We talked today about my progress on some of the things we’re working on, and agreed how important mindfulness and staying in the moment are for me. Anxiety is created living in the future or the past. Thankfully, I don’t dwell too much on the past, but I worry a lot about the future.
9:30: Walk to work. Am happy for my entire life in a several-block radius.
9:30 – 11: Check in on all of our social media channels, finish scheduling out the day’s posts, pin the crap out of things.
11-11:30: Meet with our Success Story manager to discuss progress on several initiatives to share with the world the awesome things people are accomplishing with DB.
11:30-12:30: Mas work.
12:30-12:45: Lunch al desko.
12:45-1:30: More work.
1:30: Meeting to discuss how to improve performance on a regular feature I write at work.
1:30-3:30: Attempt to reach the end of the Internet to find links for a link roundup post.
3:30-3:45: Go home to walk Bailey, realize I’m thinking about my to-do list. Listen to some Gabrielle Bernstein meditations. Even if I’m not quite meditating, her voice is soothing in my earbuds.
3:45: Get back to work, make detailed to-do list with timeline for the rest of the day. I want to leave around 6, so I need to really block out time to get everything done I need to before I leave.
3:45-5:00: Finish link roundup post.
5:00-6:00: Finish the rest of the non-negotiables on to-do list that I’ve told myself I must get done today; catch up on the non-immediate emails I hadn’t yet gotten to.
6:00: Finish some PhotoShop work, send files to myself, schedule a few more posts for the evening.
6:30-7:00: Take train uptown to Junior League, write notes to self on train for meeting with boss tomorrow. Laugh that I actually thought I’d leave by 6.
7:00 – 8:30: Co-lead meeting with our new provisionals (new members). Breathe a sigh of relief when it’s over.
8:30-9:15: Relax with a glass of wine.
9:15-9:45: Subway home.
9:45: Walk puppernutter.
10:00: Make some chicken over brown rice and sit down to blog. Note: on a day when I get home after 9 or so, I don’t typically blog any more, but I had a little extra energy…until I straight up crashed.

I love that I'm not the only one that listens to meditations to calm down at work when I'm actually not meditating. :)
My day in the life is different every day like one, I wrote one recently and I was proud. Usually I get through breakfast and forget to take pictures.

So NYC. The only thing not in a several-block radius is Junior League, because my life is really hard.
Theodora, long-time lurker, first-time commenter. Just wanted to say that you got me to read 10% Happier, which helped me start meditating, which has - not even kidding - changed my life. I'm a "live-in-the-future" person too and learning how to stay in the moment? Hard, but SO worth it.

YAY. I have found meditation and mindfulness are so so important to my sanity. So much so that I may be able to fire my therapist soon. Maybe. She's kind of awesome.

I totally half listen to random things to call myself. Although lately my relaxation has been old episodes of parenthood or glee.
My days are pretty the same. 5:30-6:30 workout, 7-8 shower and breakfast, drive to work, 8:30-9:30 blog reading/social media catch up at my work desk, 9:30-11:30 get stuff done. 11:30 lunch mini social media break, 12:30-3:30 or so continue work. Dance practice (i'm a coach) from 4-7, sometimes I arrive late as they don't really need me til after 5. Then home, dinner, bed. I always want wine, but can never have just one glass, and don't sleep well after 2 or more.
I love these kinds of posts, too! I'll admit it, I'm just super nosy! But give me any kind of details about your daily routine, what's in your handbag, what's in your medicine cabinet (the beauty stuff, not the embarrassing stuff) and I'm a happy girl!
I have to sneak out of my house for my morning workout, too! My dog likes to sleep until 10, but she also wants me to be in the apartment with her while she sleeps. Tiny little 10lb diva :)

Love these types of post myself. It's interesting to see different schedules, etc. That or I am just plain nosey.
Wow. Your poor dog. You spend so little time with him and he gets so little exercise.
I wake up every day at 515. I work out for about 45 minutes. I then take my dog to the dog park for an hour every day.
Please give him more attention.
Some days are like this, some days I spend a lot more time with him, and if I know I have a truly busy week, he gets sent out to NJ for quality time with my parents.
@Theodora Blanchfield: It's the middle of winter. In New York. According to your post, you took your dog on 3 short walks. I am absolutely psychotic about my dog (as in I refuse to let him go to a doggie daycare that doesn't have a webcam I can peek at throughout the day..) and I would say you are doing a great job being a puppy mama!! Everyone has busy days where everything gets less attention than it should. Heck, when I'm super busy, my human husband gets less attention than he deserves! People should seriously refrain from judging someone's entire life based off of one day.
First time commenting, but I have to agree that your dog gets so little attention! I would never go out for a glass of wine at night if I knew my dog had been alone all day. Maybe you are more of a cat person.
Longtime lurker. Could you elaborate on the egg, brown rice, truffle oil? I am in need of some new breakfast ideas.
