Getting Back on Track

This morning, I woke up to snow.

Yesterday, I was here.

My body is so confused.

And frankly, it’s angry with me.

I had an amazing weekend away with friends in Puerto Rico (more to come on that later this week) that was great for my soul. Thanks to Verizon barely working there, I was forced to unplug all weekend, which was really nice. I also laughed until I cried so many times that I think my ultimate demise will be from laughing while taking a sip on something and choking. There’s worse ways to go.

But I only ran once and I truly don’t think I had a green vegetable while there. Between that and lady problems, the amount of bloating I feel right now is pretty uncomfortable. I’m generally pretty good at staying on track on vacation, but, well, it just didn’t happen this time.

Coverup: Lilly, obviously. My mother is a mind-reader and had actually bought this for me for my birthday before I even blogged about it. As soon as she read my post, she told me not to buy anything before my birthday!

Adios pina coladas, it’s back to the treadmill for me.

Are you good at staying on track on vacation? Also, more importantly, what’s your favorite tropical drink? I have to say, our hotel made some killer peach sangria.

  • I need to get back on track from winter. I've been slacking so much on exercise and healthy eating due to the 900 feet of snow we have in Boston!
    I love Dark n Stormy's!

  • I LOVE a good dark and stormy but nothing says beach vacation more than a gin & tonic as this is what Bo's mom ALWAYS ordered when we were in the Bahamas.

  • I leave for orlando tomorrow (princess half on sunday). And I don't know how well I'll stay on track. I'm going with 3 friends, 2 of whom are getting married this year, and one of whom is a doctor....so that sounds healthy. But we all went to college together, and sometimes its fun to pretend we are freshmen again. So who knows!

When I go on Mexican vacations with my parents its a good balance of decadent dinners, but I also get at least 4 miles running or walking each day. So I don't feel too bad.

  • minus the nighttime shenanigans that always seem to ensue on vacations, esp if they're girls' trips, i'm actually pretty good about sticking to a healthy diet and exercise regimen. not sure if it's because i'm asleep half the day and so i just generally don't eat too much, or if it's because i convince myself that any workout is better than continuing to sleep, and so even an exhausted 4-mile run feels like a victory...but i usually can push through, thankfully. but i think it's okay to allow yourself some element of reprieve from it all on vaca, and just enjoy whatever you want to do, knowing you'll pick back up when you're home.

  • So jealous of vaca, I need a warm escape!

I am actually usually pretty good on vacation, especially one that involves a bikini because if I drink/eat too much and don't work out I know I will feel uncomfortable in such minimal clothing! So that is usually my saving grace for not going overboard. But hey it's vacation and if you have blast that is all that matters in the scheme of things, right?

  • I'm going to PR this weekend for my bachlorette! Where did you stay? Any restaurants/bars you would recommend?

  • I'm headed for the Dominican Republic in 17 days (but who's counting?!) and your picture is making me so anxious to go!!!

Eating-wise, I am really good about staying on track Sunday through Thursday, but Friday and Saturday I go so far off-track, it's hard to find my way back! Still trying to figure out my best balance there. I just wish you could totally counterbalance a crap diet with solid workouts -- I'm really good about staying on track there!

  • I try to stay active on vacation, but when it comes to food I like to live it up. I used to try to restrict myself but that backfired, letting myself enjoy actually helps me to feel better and come back feeling good.
