Oakley Mini 10K Race Recap

Oakley provided me with a free entry and outfit. All crappy race times are my own.

Â
If you saw this photo on Instagram, maybe you thought how excited I looked to run and thought maybe I had a good race. And that’s where you’d be wrong.
Â
Earlier this week, I was psyched to run the Mini 10K. It’s one of my favorite races, and I hadn’t run it in a few years because it was usually the same weekend as the tri in my hometown. Of course the year I decide not to do that race, they’re different weekends.
Â
Maybe I could PR, I thought, since my 10K PR is the same pace as my half PR.Â
Â
Well, per usual race day, I woke up with my period and some raging cramps. Also, it was 77 degrees out.

Â
The struggle is real, people. When I woke up not feeling well, I didn’t even put on my watch because I just didn’t want to know.
Â
Alex and I started off the race together and ran for probably the first four miles. I’d also somehow tweaked my quad this week, and it was bothering me so I stopped to walk at some point at mile 4 and let Alex go ahead of me. I started getting down on myself for walking but then just reminded myself it wasn’t my day and to try to enjoy the rest of the experience as much as I could.
Â
As I came down around the southern end of the park, I saw Jess cheering, and I got a nice view of Central Park South and Columbus Circle, and it made me super excited for the marathon. As I approached the finish, I saw a November Project group cheering and got a high-five from my friend Emily.Â
Â
I finished the race like 13 minutes behind my PR (1:04) and a shweaty beast, but hey, I still ran 6.2 miles before 9am.
Â
Â
And then Oakley hosted a brunch for us at The Smith, and I ate a giant ball of burrata and died both of happiness and a stomachache. #worthit
Â
Â
Â
And last night I went to a pop-up white party in Brooklyn.
Â
This weekend has not sucked.
Â
How was your weekend?Â

  • Great job! Some days are not 'race' days and are instead 'get out there and give your best effort days'. You completed 6.2 miles before most were out of bed so well done!! I did the marathon last year and that run along Central Park south is pretty spectacular. Congrats again :-)

  • A pop up white party sounds fun! And I love that picture of you jumping at the race!

  • Great mindset on the fact that you still ran a 10k before what looks like an epic brunch! :) Glad you had fun at the white party!

  • Congratulations on completing the race despite all the obstacles that reared their ugly heads along the way! Sounds like a great weeked, far better than mine in terms of running progress or weight loss... But tomorrow is another day. Congrats!

  • Oh man, another race with your period? I so feel for you, that's just the worst, especially in this heat this weekend! So hot and sunny (but really nice at the same time lol). Congrats on the race and I LOVE The Smith - one of my faves.

  • You put your running clothes on put those running shoes
on and ran with the confidence and great persistence as always
    even with not feeling well,
    Your are winner!!!!

    Love

  • that race was so worth it just for you to get that jumping pic! so cute. a pop-up white party in BK?! rad.

  • I don't know what burrata is. I know all the words in "pop-up white party" but cannot imagine what that is, either. BUT I know that someone who runs 6.2 miles before 9 a.m. is awesome, no matter how fast/slow/walky/crampy they are. Go you :)

  • Had to laugh a little at that "all crappy race times are my own" I feel that about my running most days this year as I just am not able to get my mojo back and am stuck in 10+ min mile category. I don't know if I will ever get back to my old running self. I am trying to come to terms with it.

I was in Miami. It didn't suck.

  • Well done! Gorgeous day for a race, and that leap at the finish is a great flourish. (Air fist pump).

I want to look that good in a white dress. SweeT!
