Getting In Touch With My Inner Child

I’ve worked at Daily Burn for more than three years (what? when did that happen?) but the best part of my job has been since we launched our daily workout show, Daily Burn 365.

I mean, hello, braids and I’ve been able to take my mom to work.

But seriously — it’s so cool that we have this daily workout show that allows us to talk about health, well-being and confidence every day. We’re all about celebrating victories — on and off the scale.

Part of my job is creating content and connecting our community to inspire each other — but shit, sometimes they really inspire me and make me think.

Last week, one of our regulars, Jonas filmed an amazingly inspiring segment about getting in touch with his inner child.

You would never tell a child they’re not smart or pretty or worth it, right?

So why do we tell ourselves these things?

In some ways, I’m very much in touch with my inner child.

(Ok fine, in some ways, I’ve never grown up.)

I can be really silly and goofy…pretty often. Thankfully, I’ve created safe spaces at work and with friends where that’s ok — and that’s why my people make me so happy.

But being kind to my inner child? Being gentle with her instead of chastising her that’s she made dumb mistakes? Well, that’s a work in progress.

Here’s to more kindness — to ourselves, and to others.

And here’s also to finding that dress and that guitar.

What will you do to be kind to your inner child?

  • A few things:
    1) I found my way back to your blog via Instagram and am loving reading your posts.
    2) This video is AWESOME and I so appreciate what they're talking about here. This is the work I've been doing the past 7 months and it's really been life changing. Learning to be our own loving parent is so important.
    3) You posted this on my birthday. That's gotta be an extra special sign to me from the universe, right? Ha.
    4) Kudos to you for talking about emotional and mental health in a public forum. High five girl
    5) Your braid in that picture is fab! Any pointers?
    Have an awesome Sunday!

    • I love that this is a numbered list :) So many of my texts/IM convos at work are, too.
      1. Thank you! :)
      2. So important/so hard.
      3. YES, definitely a sign!
      4. Thank you — it can be scary for sure, but if it helps one person, it's worth it.
      5. I wish I had any pointers! We have hair people at work. I can put my hair in a bun or curl it. That is the extent of beyond-ponytail hair that I can do.
