This May Be Oversharing Podcast: Episode 6, A Lighter Take on Grief (With Rebecca Soffer, Co-Founder/Author of Modern Loss)

I’m currently in the middle of a social media hiatus, but I wanted to pop in to share my latest podcast episode.

On this episode of This May Be Oversharing, I interview Rebecca Soffer, founder of Modern Loss. It’s a site that takes an irreverent look at the grief process, laughing at the absurdity and dark humor of it all.

I’ve written for the site, and I’ve admired Rebecca from afar (does that sound creepy?) since hearing her at an HBO event exploring grief. Rebecca is as funny as she is kind, and I had so much fun sitting and talking with her. We could have talked for hours, but a scheduled phone call of hers spared all of you from that.

As soon as I started thinking seriously about this podcast, I knew I wanted to have her on. I want to explore grief on this podcast for sure, but I want to do my best to take a lighter approach to it when I can.

Rebecca and I talk a lot about what it’s like to lose a parent in your 30s—especially as a single only child. Spoiler alert: it’s not easy.

“I was trying to move my life along, but I didn’t know how I was going to do that with such deep grief after the rug was ripped out from under my feet.”

We had a far-ranging conversation talking about everything from dating after losing parents, journalism and entrepreneurship.
