The title of this post is one of my favorite quotes, from Gretchen Rubin. I like to remember it when I’m really busy, as a reminder to appreciate these days as they pass.
I took a look at my to-do list today and very nearly panicked. My heart rate sped up, and my breathing started getting shorter. I stuck my earbuds in, turned on a Gabby Bernstein Kundalini playlist, tried to breathe as deeply as I could with coworkers all around and popped some L-theanine and tried to let the feeling pass as I powered through my list.
The days have been long, but it’s already April. I’ve already been at my new job for six months today. The years are short. So here are just a few highlights from lately.
My mom does such a good job with not letting the little things pass her by. While taking care of seemingly everyone she knows, she also takes time to celebrate, oh, everything. I don’t think the woman has ever met a holiday she couldn’t decorate for. Easter included. Yes, this is an Easter tree. Yes, she has lost it.
I can’t believe it was nearly three years ago that I went up to RI with my family to pick up my little cousin Lexi. She’s a real little person now!
Saturday included run club, picking up cake/cannoli [that I couldn’t eat], wedding dress shopping with Lacey and then heading home. I was stressing about not having enough time between run club and meeting up with Lacey, but as I walked west to Empire Cake (so good, so expensive—I left empty-handed) I realized that if I didn’t slow down, I’d miss the gorgeous day.
Run club was fun, as always. I’m trying out the New Balance 890v4s for work, and there’s nothing like some new shoes to put a little kick in your step. Or your NYJL run club buddies trekking downtown to join your JuicePress run.
Friday night, I was feeling a little bummed out, but I put on heels, a cute top and some red lipstick and met Lacey for a drink. Putting in that little extra effort that inspired extra confidence in myself and resulted in a round of drinks being sent over to us. Well, okay.
And Friday morning, I tried out Flex’s TRX class with an old coworker and a new one. SO HARD, SO HUMBLING, SO AWESOME. I love TRX because I feel the burn immediately.
What have you been up to lately? How do you stay grounded when you’re really busy?
Also, there’s some random awesome sales going on right now:
Ann Taylor: 50% off with code WOW50
Saks: 25% off with code FRNFAM.
Someone hide my wallet, please.

Thanks for reminding me to cherish even the busier-than-seems-possible days! On those days I try to remember to smile, because that always makes me feel happier and more confident...and then that to-do list seems a little more manageable :)
Making time for myself when I'm super busy is a MUST. Whether its going for a run or treating myself to a latte, you just need a few moments to take a break and appreciate the small stuff.
I love that quote- such a good reminder!
Other than work, all my time are with my family which I felt is the most precious moment for me. It's really true, The Days Are Long but The Years Are Short. Time is running fast, as the kids had grown up, is time to find some space/time for my own leisure and hobbies.
Thanks for your reminder.
@bckhoo: I think Gretchen Rubin actually did originally mean the quote about her kids! :)
OH I still think that quote DAILY with regards to my child.
xo
so true it's easy to get lost in our to do's and miss life.
This post spoke to me today. I definitely need to step back and smell the roses!
mmhhhmmmmm your title - one of my favourite sayings, although I don't always remember it
Hi guys and gals! I love the fact that everybody is becoming more aware of the foods that they are putting into their bodies. It is so important to eat healthy, exercise, and get enough sleep! It's not always easy staying on track with all the temptations out there. I personally have struggled with this my entire life. I think a great meal plan is a great way to go!
I recently bought this great cookbook that helps me stay on track in my everyday life. It teaches you how to cook the "right" foods with delicious recipes! If you want to check out the book that really helped me succeed! Click Here!
Oh my goodness, this is so true for me right now! I just got laid off three weeks ago, and all my friends and family keep reminding me to enjoy my time off. I'm interviewing for new roles now and it doesn't look like I'll be off long, but I still get worried. This was the reminder I needed to enjoy this time!
