I Love Runners

For seven years in D.C., I never felt like I was part of a community.

I had lots of friends, but all from different groups, and I wasn’t part of something that united me with people with common interests.

A key part to my happiness in New York is being part of multiple communities where I feel comfortable and accepted and have things in common with people.

Running. Blogging. Junior League.

After my run yesterday, I met up with Laura for a drink (or three?) before heading over to Leticia’s to hang out with a big group of runners and drink sangria and eat guac.

Go to Agave. They have the best margaritas ever.

After staying up chatting until 2am with my friends, I had a hard time rallying this morning to meet up with a group of friends for a run this morning. We were meeting by the Apple store on 5th Ave and running to Queens for brunch. Thanks to Kristin for organizing!

I ran with Ashley the entire time and we chatted and caught up.

We ran to Queens Comfort for a fun brunch. Best part about this place? It’s BYOB!

I had the Egg McRuffin: bechamel, smoked bacon, cheddar and fontina on an English muffin with TATER TOTS.

It was such a fun low-key weekend, and I’m really grateful for such an awesome running community in New York.

What sort of communities are you involved in?

Three-Day Weekends for the Win

OMG, three-day weekends for the win.

I’ve had a really good weekend already, and I still have another day and a half!

Friday night: Restorative yoga at Laughing Lotus. It was basically a 90-minute nap, and I loved it. I think I’ll probably do a separate review of it, because I have a lot more to say about this.

Saturday morning:

Ran 6 miles with Fiona in Central Park. I love my buddy the West Side Highway but am a little burnt out on it, so it was nice to run in the park. Minus the hills completely kicking my ass. Also, see that little screenshot? Yeah, I have no idea where my Garmin charger is, which shows how serious I’ve been about running lately. I ran with my phone in my pocket and didn’t look at it once while I was running, so I was happy to see this pace when I was done.

I met my college roomie Jen for lunch afterwards at Lucien in the East Village. Operation Go Places Below 14th Street More For the Win.

I had eggs florentine for lunch, and they were fabulous. We stayed and chatted for hours. The last time I saw her, we vowed to hang out more. Only 5 weeks later? Not too shabby.

I also talked her into the Franklin Lakes Triathlon that I plan on doing again this June. Race pushing for the win.

At night, I went to Las Ramblas, a small tapas bar in the Village, with Lacey and Shannon. There was a wait when we got there, so we went down the street to get a drink and they called us when our table was ready, and we came back.

I don’t know how we didn’t take a picture, but we drank the best strawberry cava sangria.

We split a whole bunch of tapas, including:

Croquetas!

Charcuterie

Skewers of duck sausage, quail eggs and pearl onions. Mom, you’d love this, right??

We loved the ambiance of the small restaurant–and the sangria didn’t hurt–and lingered for quite some time, catching up and laughing.

The night ended at 8th Street Wine Cellar, where this lovely lady who was in town dropped by!

Somehow, despite only getting 5 hours of sleep, I rallied and made it to a 9:30 Soul Cycle class for Kristine’s birthday. I don’t really drink the Soul Cycle kool-aid and wasn’t super-crazy about the class, but it was still nice to do something different. It’s funny–when I first started working out after college, I LOVED spin, but now it’s completely take it or leave it for me.

How was your weekend? What new workouts have you tried lately? How do you feel about spin?
