Derby Day!

DSCF7482.JPG

Yesterday, I put on my big hat and a sundress for a few Derby parties! First, we went to the Union League Club’s party. While they’re technically co-ed, I think there are more men in the ULC, and so I think of it as the men’s version of Junior League.

They had some traditional Derby dishes like deviled eggs and macaroni and cheese. I’m not sure if pulled pork (that’s what the slider is) is a traditional Derby food, but it was damn good. And yes, that is a seersucker tablecloth. If I were a tablecloth person, I would totally want that one. I saved room because my second stop was at Ashley and Bo’s Derby party, and I knew they’d have an epic spread.

I was not wrong.

So what’s the next sundresses-and-cocktails holiday?

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

You know how I wrote yesterday that sometimes I feel like I don’t work out “enough?”

Well, I realized before I went to sleep that I’ve worked out for seven days in a row.

So you better believe today is a rest day. This actually the first rest day in a while that’s felt forced to me–I’ve been on a pretty good workout kick again lately. But don’t worry, I’ll still be lifting a glass to my lips tonight as I celebrate Cinco de Mayo. (Cinco de Mayo 2010, apparently I forgot Cinco de Mayo in 2009???? Also, a lot of my pictures in old posts are missing since moving from Tumblr to WordPress–if anyone knows how to help with that, I’d be forever indebted to you…) I love margaritas, despite how many calories they have, but there’s a cocktail I read about in Tina’s book that I may try tonight if there’s not already pitchers of margaritas on the table. (While I believe you need to listen to your own body, I also believe sometimes in just going with the flow.)

I don’t have the book with me, but I think it’s tequila, soda water, a splash of lime juice and a splash of Diet Sprite. (I doubt most bars have Diet Sprite, but I suppose I’ll ask anyway.) If you’re in D.C., walk, don’t run to the Rio Grande. Best. Margaritas. Ever.

This morning I had the cookie dough oatmeal again. (And Tuesday. And Wednesday.) It looks so pretty at home but so gross by the time I get to work. There’s nothing green in it, so I have no idea why it takes on that hue.

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!
