Uplift Studios opened nearly a year ago, yet yesterday was the first time I’d taken a class.
Last week, my Twitter buddy and their head instructor, Steph invited me to one of their classes. I ended up not being able to make it Monday night so I went yesterday morning. They’ve recently expanded their schedule to add more early morning and later-at-night classes. I’m always glad when I hear of a NYC fitness studio that actually accommodates long NYC work hours with early and late class options.
I walked upstairs to the studio and heard Call Me Maybe. I can’t hear that song without smiling and thinking of Reach the Beach, so it was a great start. I checked in at that long bar you see in the bottom left picture and was greeted by Leanne, one of the founders, who is basically the sweetest person ever. I would like to know how she was so chipper so early in the morning.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, UPLIFT ALSO DOES WORKOUT + WINE CLASSES. I don’t usually start with wine at 7:30 in the morning, but you can bet I will be back for that class.
The timing of my class was great; last week they moved from a schedule with lots of classes to focusing on two signature classes, Cardio and Strength. I took the cardio class and nearly died.
Steph looks super sweet, but she teaches a MEAN class. My muscles hate her right now. The class is broken up into several sections focusing on different parts of the body, such as abs or legs. After every move, you do a cardio burst for thirty seconds. Although the class was billed as a cardio class, there were plenty of planks, burpees and other strengthening moves. We also had two sets of weights, three and five-pounders, that we used for the arm section of the class.
When the class ended 55 minutes later, I walked out a sweaty, sweaty mess. And I am not a super sweaty person, but this class was intense. Awesome way to start the day.
What’s your favorite way to start the day?
P.S. I’m an ambassador for the Zooma Annapolis Half, and I just (like, two seconds before I was going to hit publish) heard that if you sign up for the race before 3/3, you get a training care package in the mail. Just FYI.
