Okay. Enough of the pity party. I promise. (Also, no more blogging serious things while PMSing.)
I started today off with a blueberry bagel thin that the Thomas people sent me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a blueberry bagel (even though they used to be my favorite), so I was really excited to try these. Supposedly, blueberry bagels aren’t “real” New York bagels, or so a former coworker told me. This guy and I categorically disagreed with anyone the other one said, so I swore up and down he was wrong. Then I moved into the city, and I have not once seen a blueberry bagel in a bagel shop. Damnit. Anyway, these were good and brought me back to the days of eating a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and drinking Snapple Rain every. single. day. before tennis camp in high school. (#thisiswhyiwasfat)
Today, I put sunflower butter and strawberries on top and had a hard-boiled egg on the side for a little extra protein.
I had a meeting this morning, and then I headed off to do my favorite cross-training: swimming. I only started swimming to prepare for the sprint tri, but I’ve become sort of obsessed with it for cross-training. It feels like yoga in the water to me. Now that the tri is over, I don’t swim with any sort of workout or distance goal in mind–I just swim for time. Today, I swam for about 40 minutes and left feeling sufficiently worn out.
What’s your favorite cross-training workout? (And favorite bagel?)
Isn’t our race on Sunday?
Favorite Cross training- spinning. Favorite Bagel- everything! Speaking of bagels- can you bring some NY ones up to MAINE?! I miss them : )
@Lizzy: haha yes…and yes.
I’m obsessed with sesame bagels, and used to eat them all the time (with a huge shmear of cream cheese and Pringles layered on top. that’s what I was fat) but since moving to Florida, they’re nowhere to be found!
I was back in NY state a few weeks ago and ate three sesame bagels to make up for lost time
@Katy Widrick: I feel like I’m currently making up for 7 years in D.C. and then a year of trying to lose weight by eating every bagel I can. (I actually talk about bagels way more than I actually eat them. I only eat a “real” bagel like once a week.)
I love sesame bagels ( when they are covered in about 1 million sesame seeds- not just a wimpy sprinkle) and my favorite cross training would be biking, preferably along the river.
I really don’t want to be that person, but I don’t have a favorite bagel and don’t remember the last time I ate one. However, Rick’s favorite bagel is onion… which I find odd for some reason.
Oh and in high school I ate a lender’s frozen blueberry bagel for lunch every single day. Maybe that’s why I don’t eat them any more? =)
@Fit Chick in the City: And you call yourself a New Yorker!
Hi! Just found your blog and love it
I played tennis in high school/attended many a tennis camp in Texas, and I distinctly remember my dad calling me the “bagel queen” around that time because apparently bagels were my tennis fuel of choice. Thanks, Dad.
Anywho, your bagel looks delish!
mmnnmm egg everything bagels with cream cheese. My total favorite!
I’ve tried those blueberry bagel thins. They’re not a substitute for a real bagel but they’re tasty!
i love blueberry bagels! but you’re right, you can really only find them outside of the city. i always try to get my fix in maine. however, they do have them at bagel works on 1st ave between 66 and 67. I HIGHLY recommend. Love your blog!
I’m a blueberry bagel lover as well – they’re the best. Apparently it’s kind of hard to find a good GF blueberry bagel anywhere. Rats.
I haven’t had a real bagel in a while. My favorite is onion or egg made into a greasy breakfast sandwich. #thatswhyiwasfat
We have blueberry bagels in Brooklyn!! My favorite is the everything. With vegetable cream cheese. Mmmmmmmmm.
@Cat @ Breakfast to Bed: oh, and snapple rain? Best ever.
Rye bagels are my favorite…the bomb. Or pumpernickel. Obviously both are best enjoyed toasted with cream cheese/laughing cow and smoked salmon.
pumpernickel is like the red headed step child of bagels, but i lerveee em.
with some kind of flavored cream cheese. oh yeahhhh.
Chocolate Chip bagels!!! Toasted with the melty chocolate and peanut butter. Amazingness!!! Well deserved after a long run.
@Gia: Chocolate chip bagels!? OMG.
@Theodora: Oh yes! I think its more of a CA thing than NYC but Noah’s and Einsteins have them. I think that ess-a-bagel has them. Sometimes they hand them out after NYRR races!!
I’m pretty sure the H&H on the upper west side has blueberry bagels! I love them too. I also like multigrain and asiago. Anything with cheese, I like.
Hi Theodora! I just stumbled upon your blog yesterday and I really like it! Greetings from Greece! (btw, you know what your first name means in Greek, don’t you?)
aw, thanks! Yes, I do know what it means
I’m from the Midwest so we have to deal with Panera bagels, but I love them all anyways! Especially chocolate chip!
It’s so funny that you ask that because I cannot find any cross training that I enjoy except my kickboxing class. I do not like biking and swimming is so exhausting. BTW – I’ve never seen a blueberry bagel in a bagel store either. lol
