Eleven Things

Mindy at Just a One Girl Revolution tagged me in one of these blog equivalents of a chain letter, and I don’t want seven years of bad luck, so…

rules:

  1. Post these rules
  2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
  3. Answer the questions set for you in their post.
  4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  5. Go to their blog and tell them that you’ve tagged them.
  6. No stuff in the tagging section about “you are tagged if you are reading this”. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

random facts:

[one] I started reading when I was three years old. I credit my parents and always surrounding me with books.

[two] Related to one, I skipped ahead a grade in reading (and I think math? I can’t remember now) classes for a few years in elementary school until the girl who was skipping with me couldn’t handle it any more.

[three] I’m obsessed with Julian Casablancas. I wouldn’t ordinarily consider being a home-wrecker…except for him. He’s so not my type, but good lord is he sexy.

[four] I had a TV in my room growing up, but I’m really and honestly completely indifferent about TV. I usually have it on in the background when I get home for noise, but most of the time I couldn’t tell you what I was watching since I pay so little attention. I recently canceled cable because of this and it hasn’t changed my life in the least.

[five] I’ve never dated anyone more than four or five months.

[six] I really wanted to be Cher from Clueless when I was in middle school and had my mom buy me lots of suit-type outfits like hers.

[seven] I’m terrified of flying. Like, Xanax-popping, sign-of-cross-making terrified. Even for short flights.

[eight] I thought I was allergic to all nuts and peanuts until getting some allergy testing done a year or so ago. I’m still allergic to peanuts but I can eat all nuts. This really hasn’t changed my life that much, other than the occasional Larabar.

[nine] If there were no calories in French fries, I would eat them every. single. day. Alas…

[ten] My parents live in the same town as the Real Housewives of NJ. (And in the same neighborhood as Jaclyn and Kim G.) My college roomie is from the neighborhood where the Real Housewives of OC are from, and I made fun of her…until they started filming in my parents’ ‘hood.

[eleven] I took a semester off from college to do a full-time internship, but I took classes over the summer the next summer so that I’d still graduate on time.

Mindy’s questions

[one] If you were doing a destination wedding, where would it be? OOH! Napa.
[two] What was the first movie you saw? Fantasia!
[three] What book do you think everyone should read? Steve Jobs’ biography–I’m reading it right now and it’s really fascinating to see how one man’s work has had such an impact on all of our lives.
[four] What’s the best joke you’ve ever heard? Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven ate nine.
[five] What’s your favorite pizza topping? Pineapple. I love Hawaiian pizza. I love Hawaii, too.
[six] What was your favorite subject in high school? Spanish, hands-down. Mostly because it came really easily to me. I like things that I’m good at.
[seven] Do you prefer the summer or winter olympics? Summer–I loved gymnastics and was obsessed with the Mag 7.
[eight] What’s your favorite dessert? Creme brulee.
[nine] Would you rather watch the SuperBowl or World Series? Super Bowl. Better party.
[ten] What concert is on your bucket list? Toby Keith.
[eleven] If you had to live in another country for a year, where would you live? I’d like to go to a Spanish-speaing country and get back all those Spanish skillz I’ve lost since college.
My 11 Questions
[one] What book do you think everyone should read but no way in hell would you share your own copy?
[two] If you could get a degree in ANYTHING (without having to worry about silly things like finding a job in that field), would you get a degree in?
[three] If you had twenty-four free hours and unlimited funds in your own city/town, how would you spend them?
[four] Which celebrity could you actually see yourself being friends with?
[five] If you’re not married–where would your dream honeymoon be? If you are married and could do your honeymoon over again, where would you go?
[six] If you had to live in one season for the rest of your life, which season would it be?
[seven] If you could only shop at one store for the rest of your life, what store would it be? (Doesn’t have to be practical. Your life would magically change to adapt to this store. Like if you said Lilly Pulitzer, your life would be all rainbows and small whimsical animals.)
[eight] Favorite social network?
[nine] FAVORITE WILL FERRELL MOVIE.
[ten] Runners: what’s your dream race? Non-runners: what’s your fitness dream?
[eleven] The last song you listened to.
I tag…

I HATE flying too! I have to take medicine as well, even just to get to the airport. Unfortunately I fly all the time. I live in NYC as well but my work takes me all over the world (I’m a photographer). I often find myself wondering why I didn’t choose a different career as I have always been afraid of flying and new going into it that my job would require me to fly at least three to four times a month. There have been many many times where clients have wanted me to go places for a specific shot and I will say “Oh, we can get that in New York…I’ll just stay here”. And then they will reply “where in New York is there a dense rainforest?”. Flying sucks.

@Liza:Wait…there’s not a rainforest in NYC? Weird, I thought there was one in Central Park.

Flying more hasn’t helped? I’ve gotten a little better since I flew to Hawaii a few years ago, but am still not a fan. However, I don’t ever want my fear of flying to keep me from going somewhere. Unless it was maybe Australia/New Zealand. Not sure there’s enough pills in the world to get me to fly that far.

@Theodora: It gets better if I fly a bunch of times in a row, but if I go a while without flying you have to basically knock me unconscious to get me on the plane. Funny story: my ex loved to fly. He was in a band and constantly “jetting off” to one location after the next. He broke up with me because I hated to fly so much and he felt like I ruined one of his favorite things to do. No worries, I have a bunch of stock photos of him performing that are seriously unflattering. I often release them at very opportune times.

I don’t have cable either! And I’m with you on the flying… and if there is any turbulence at all I will grab the thigh of the person next to me, whether or not I know them.

I keep getting scared to read these because I keep getting tagged and have like 88 questions to answer. But I still love reading them because I am a sucker for random facts about my friends 🙂

I am with you on TV. And fries.

    XOXO

You better do it if you don’t want seven years of bad luck. And I’ll see if my mom can drag up some Clueless-era photos 🙂

Thanks for the tag! This was one meme I actually haven’t been over-saturated by, yet 😉 I did mine a week or two ago and had fun with it.

The Steve Jobs’ biography is on my “next read” list – I can’t really imagine how someone could capture his life and mind in just one book, but have no doubt it’s worth reading!
