Marathon #4, I’m Coming For You!

I’ll be running my fourth marathon this year.

The decisions for 1, 2 and 3 were all pretty easy.

1: Chicago: a friend was doing it. Done.

2. New York: I’d done 9+1 the year prior.

3. Marine Corps: My dear friend Julie was doing it as her first marathon, and I couldn’t not also do it.

There’s a handful of marathons on my someday list: Big Sur, Boston (um, maybe once I hit the next AG), Flying Pig, something international, maybe Dublin, but I wasn’t dying to do any of those this year. I wanted something else on the East Coast.

So…this happened this afternoon.

I’ve heard Wineglass is a great, fast course, made for PRs. And I still have a score to settle with sub-4.

Downhill elevation where PRs are made of…

There’s no goal you can’t do…

At Wineglaaaaaass!

(No?)

I’ve also heard a gazillion people are doing it, so I’m looking forward to hanging with running buddies before and after.

So!

Questions. Are you running Wineglass? Have you run Wineglass? Are you running a fall marathon?

I’m running it for my first marathon! I did the half last year and loved it. Really well organized and a beautiful, scenic course with the leaves changing. Corning has lots of cute shops and restaurants. Good luck!

Have you ever considered Steamtown? I keep setting PRs there. 3 other friends have too. It is a fast course. Great BQ course.

From my past three, I’ve found that summer running definitely sucks but it helps you feel like you’re flying once it cools down!

Congrats on signing up for your 4th marathon. I ran Wine glass a couple years ago 2010. The course is pretty flat point to point course. The course is extremely rural running on back roads passing cows and horses. The medal is awesome made out of wine glass, when I ran they also gave women’s purple tech shirts so I loved that. Enjoy it and you will get that sub 4h!

Wineglass looks awesome! I’m running the Richmond Marathon again this fall. I didn’t find it very hilly but other people did so my memory might be off, but I hope to PR there. I really love the course, organization and crowd support in Richmond.

Yay Wineglass! That’s on my list of races I want to run someday (maybe next year. No 26.2 for me this year). Good luck!

Yay! I already tweeted you about this. We also need to chill at the JL sometime and meet in person because we run the same pace pretty much and should run together. I’m trying to figure out a good time trial half marathon for early September…apparently that is easier said than done.

Awesome! Is that the one where the medal is made from recycled glass? Run the pig next year. I’ll be there! I’ve wanted to run the pig for years and I will next year – even if it’s the only race I run! Can’t wait to read your training recaps! Happy Easter!

I’m excited to run Chicago as my fall race! Wineglass is one I’d like to do in the future, mainly because of that elevation profile. Though I’m sure it’ll be something you’ve got to train for, I’ll take downhill any day. Have a great weekend!

The wineglass is fantastic! I’m from Corning NY, have done the relay twice (they used to have a 3-team relay marathon), the half once and the full once! Its a wonderful course, the fall foliage is amazing that time of year and the people are wonderful! And while you are Upstate, if you can spend an extra day I STRONGLY recommend going up to the finger lakes and doing a wine tour on Seneca Lake. No better way to recover from a Marathon!

@Megan: YES! Second this, for sure. Granted, I’m biased because I live on one of the Finger Lakes but it’s a beautiful region and a wine tour in the fall is probably the best thing I can think of for a marathon recovery treat.

I just signed up for my number five today (as the price is going up in the morning)–Cologne. If you’re looking for an international marathon in the future, I’d recommend either Berlin or Barcelona (I’ve also done Liverpool and Rome, which I couldn’t bring myself to recommend)!

I’m considering Wineglass myself but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Everyone I know who has done it has PR’d though, so it should make for a perfect sub-4 attempt!

I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon in October. There’s an all downhill marathon in my hometown (The Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins) that I’ve really been wanting to do because I think it will be an easy(ier) way to PR…perhaps next year!

I am doing a small marathon that requires no travel this fall. It’s in Indiana so it should be flat. Hopefully. I just ran my hilliest ever half and the Wineglass course looks nice though my legs are still screaming from the ups and downs on the course. Best wishes training!

I signed up for the wineglass too. I live in NJ, so it’s quite a drive- but for that kind of elevation, it’s worth it! Do you know where you’re staying? Many of the hotels are already sold out

So I just came across your blog from your guest post on Fannetastic Food, and I was so pumped to find someone else running the Wineglass! It will be my first marathon, and I’m super nervous/psyched. Good luck with your training!
