The Week I Finally Started Running Again

You guys, I’ve run two days in a row.

And I feel happier than I have in a long time. I don’t think this is a coincidence. I’ve had some awesome stuff going on in life, but to be honest, I’d still felt a little empty inside.

But after two strong doses of running endorphins + Vitamin D, I feel much more like myself.

Sunshine=not overrated. Not even a little bit. Same with running. I definitely get endorphin-high from other things, but not the way I do from running.

Here’s another little weekly recap.

My life tends to be incredibly cyclical. Some weeks, I’ll be really really busy and not spend much time with my little furry friend and then make sure to schedule plenty of downtime the next week to sit on the couch and hold paws. The previous week was really busy, and with my ball + photo shoot next week, things are going to get real busy real quick. I needed some serious downtime last week.

Monday: I had the day off work, so…I worked in the morning and went to Uplift at noon. Just like a normal day, but backwards. I took Kat’s class. We spent a long time chatting several nights earlier, and I hadn’t taken her class in a while…so I did. That chick has SO MUCH ENERGY. She’s also freaking hilarious. I definitely burst out giggling several times. (I was also the kid in high school who laughed at all of the teachers’ jokes…)

Tuesday: I couldn’t get into a morning class at Uplift, and I told myself I’d run at night. I left work around 7:30, and…yeah. That didn’t happen. Unplanned rest day for the first time in a long time.

Wednesday: Training with Leanne. I did a ton of heavy (for me) lifting, and I wanted to die/kill her. You know how some workouts, you bound out, full of energy and endorphin-wasted? Yeah, not this one. I shuffled my way to work. At night, I grabbed a drink with Jen and her friends.

Thursday: Sculpt Fusion with Chelsea. This class sucks if you’re sick. That’s it. I was basically falling all over the place because my head was all congested and my (already terrible) sense of balance was off.

Friday: I know they say you “can” work out if you just have a head cold, but that didn’t help at all on Thursday, so I took another rest day…and felt much better by night. Good enough to meet Lacey at Uplift after work and then go to several wine bars after that…

Saturday: I guess I made up for one of those rest days with two workouts.

AM: Run club, approximately 4 – 4.5 miles.

PM: Sculpt Fusion with my boss. I described it as “yoga with weights,” which kind of undersold it, I think. It’s a really hard class, it’s just low-impact. Followed that with a mimosa, followed that with a nap, another bath and dinner with Leticia and Brittany.

Ran again today! It was too nice not to. I did a little running through the city because although I love my neighborhood to death, I am far too much a creature of habit lately and needed to see a bit more of the city. I ran down 5th to Washington Square Park-ish and back. I ran past Athleta on my way there and saw the line for their Well + Good event there and the W+G ladies. I felt like I was running through a small town, not a big city!

And then I got my hair did. BLOND AGAIN! I wanted to get it done before the ball/shoot, but my regular person was gone. I read Grace’s blog and saw that she goes to the same salon, so I tweeted her to ask who she goes to and booked an appointment with her colorist. Who is cheaper than my regular one. Score. I meandered through the city on my way home, wandering in and out of the stores in Flatiron. I wish I could find it online, but I got a really pretty lace skirt at Joe Fresh that I can’t wait to wear.

Time to go to sleep because I have a hot running date with Meggie in the morning, and a big week coming up. Workout highlights I’m excited for: trying out Cyc Fitness and trying out Row + Flow at City Row. I’m also determined to keep my running momentum going…since I have a 10-miler and a half in April! I’m just going to pretend that the weather’s going to stay really warm like this.

What was your fave workout last week, and what are you psyched for this week?

Running is my happiness, too! It’s amazing what good it can do. I’m nursing an injury right now and it’s devasting not being able to run 🙁

This weather in NY has been awful. It was so hard for me to get into the groove of even getting to the gym but now I’m really looking forward to getting early and going for a quick jog. Hopefully all the snows gone!

I have been LOVING my Nike training app this week! I know it isn’t anything huge but it’s a reminder of how much I’ve been neglecting strength training!

Oh my gosh, it sounds like you’re really getting in awesome shape there, both physically and emotionally!
Discovering the running high is the absolute best thing that’s ever happened in my life, and yes, sunshine really makes so much difference.
That hair color look gorgeous on you, it’s so much easier for improvising if you have naturally light hair color, lucky you.
Glad to see you’re doing better and better, looking forward to your next post.
    Have an awesome day!

Love your hair! My favorite workout last week was my five-miler on Saturday. I’d been battling a terrible head cold and exercise took a back seat until I could actually breathe, so I was happy to get in a run. Also, my run on Sunday was great since it was sunny and 50! I got out for a short run and it was awesome!

Which half are you running in April?
