My Mom’s Secret TV Career

I mentioned last week that my mom and I had filmed this for work, and that I did. not. like. how I looked in the video. To be honest, I still freaking don’t, at all, but this is not about me. This is about my beautiful strong mom, and how not only did she overcome cancer, but she SLAYED this interview. Like, to the point I asked her if she’d had a secret TV career I never knew about.

I don’t take for granted a day how lucky we were that she was able to come out of such a tough experience on the other side — and I don’t take for granted my amazing coworkers (AND our DB community) who are such special people. I don’t know how I didn’t cry when we filmed this (I think I just stared down JD, our host,) but as I saw the beautiful comments come through our live chat this morning, I was so overcome with emotion.

Even if you don’t watch it (but please do!) — remember this: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. It was almost this exact time last year, and my mom was about to come in to watch me run the marathon and knew she didn’t feel right but wouldn’t take no for answer until they got to the bottom of it.

Thank you, too, to all of YOU who supported me through this tough time over the past year.

You and your mom are beautiful! You are so lucky to have this moment captured, especially now that your mom’s healthy is on the mend. I lost my mom to cancer 5 years ago and I still miss her every single day.
Thank you for always sharing so honestly on your blog (which I’ve read for years). I judge myself so harshly, but I appreciate your reminders that we shouldn’t treat ourselves that way. You look like a strong, proud daughter in this video (and your braids are everything!!).

Oh I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, Amy <3 There's not a second that goes by that I don't realize how profoundly lucky we were. You're right that we're so lucky to have this moment captured forever. And, I'm obsessed with the braids myself 🙂 Our hair/makeup crew at work is amazing.

Whoa I just balled my eyes out. 1st your m is one hell of a fighter and I am so happy to hear she is on the mend! 2nd she really does give a great interview. And finally cherish every (mom)ent with her( which as readers we know you do). Having lost my mom to cancer in 2010 there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her or miss her tremendously.

P.S. You look strong and confident in the video!

Wow! Your mother sounds like an amazing woman. To have gone through ovarian cancer and come out on the other side so positive and so vivacious, it’s truly incredible. I can now see where you get your enthusiasm and zest for life from. I’m so glad that your family has come out on the other side of such a terrible disease.

I know you didn’t want to make this post about you, because you are you. But I want to take a second to tell you that I think you look absolutely beautiful in that video. You look confident, you carry yourself with grace and, you are showing such love for your family. A beautiful lady. Your hair is so fierce, and your make up highlights your natural beauty.

You should be a proud daughter today and every day 🙂

Wow! You’re mom is a great example for women to be their own health advocates. If something feels wrong, press on since no one knows your body like you do.

Also- I appreciate your honesty regarding not being happy with how you look in the video. For the record, I think you look great! But I have also fallen victim to seeing a video/picture of myself and being shocked with my appearance. It can be a hard pill to swallow, but I think the more we talk about body confidence the more likely we are to see how others see us.
