Why Today is Awesome

Picture 20.png

Yes, I am that girl that just cut-and-pasted the weather report. But after a frigid winter, this is pretty amazing. Sunshine outside = sunshine in my mood, too.

  • I broke these out today. I also broke out the birthday dress and trench coat. (Dear everyone I walked past on the way to work: I was not naked under my trench coat. It’s just longer than my dress.)
  • I’ve been rocking out to some awesomely cheesy music. I nearly danced my way to work listening to the music we listened to last weekend and now I’m trying not to dance at my desk.
  • I’m going to party like it’s my birthday tonight. Rest assured, healthy decisions will not be made.
  • Tamsin’s coming to visit!

  • Breakfast was a banana and almond butter sandwich.
  • I actually ran before work!!! The nice weather and knowing that there was happy hour at the end of the tunnel certainly helped, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t snooze for an hour and I wasn’t rubbing the sleepies out of my eyes the entire time. But I did it. IN SHORTS. And I guess that might also be why I’m in an awesome mood. Maybe all you morning exercisers are on to something…photo(18).JPG
  • I passed a whole bunch of people wearing cheeseheads on my way to work. I think, technically, they were protesting, but I prefer to think that they just like cheese a lot.
  • Three-day weekend. Enough said.

Is today awesome for you, too?

(P.S. If you think I’m awesome, nominate me for the Women’s Health blogroll. It’d be cool. Or don’t. Thanks :))

The Red Dress

When I was heavier, there were two pieces of clothing that I wanted to fit into, when I lost weight one day: a Burberry coat and a Diane von Furstenberg dress. Sure, I probably could have gotten into them when I was heavier, but it wasn’t the same to me. I wanted to exude confidence in those two classy and classic pieces. (Not necessarily together.)

I got the Burberry coat for Christmas in 2009, and I started looking for a DVF dress early last year. Every time I went up to the outlets, I went into the DVF store and tried on dresses. I’d lost 50 pounds, and I was confident with my body, but I just didn’t like how they looked. They still seemed to hug all the wrong places. Still, my mom promised me that she would buy me one because she was so proud of me finishing the marathon.

Emily and I went into the DVF store at the outlets a few weeks ago. I still couldn’t find a dress that fit.

Fast forward to yesterday.

I learned at 4:30 that I’d need to be in a red dress about two hours later. I tweeted, seeing if any of my NYC friends on Twitter had a red dress I could borrow, and then I e-mailed Emily. I don’t know why, but I had a feeling she’d have a red dress. Sure enough, she said she had a few and told me to come over after work.

I walked into her apartment, and she said, “I was going to give this to you for your birthday…” She pointed to a bag, and I tore into it.

My very own red DVF dress!!!!!!!  And it fits like a glove. What an amazing birthday present from an amazing friend.

Mom, you’re still not off the hook.
