The Little Things

Every Thursday, I read Ali’s Thankful Thursday Thing, and it makes me smile, if even just for a few minutes at the beginning of a long day.

This week has been a good one. Nothing terribly exciting or wonderful has happened, but it’s still just been a decent week.

I got in two morning runs before work this week, and one mini-CrossFit workout.

I blew off politely declined plans tonight to stay at work late and then go to yoga.

The class was really crowded, and any time I did any pose where my head was at the top of my mat, my head was just inches away from the feet of the dude in front of me. Which is not as pleasant as you would imagine, shockingly. I spent the first few minutes really grumpy and even contemplated walking out, but finally decided even semi-crappy yoga would be better than no yoga. (Much like pizza…and other things.)

And sure enough, after a few sun salutations, I’d released a whole bunch of stress and grumpiness.

And as I walked home and saw the Empire State Building ahead of me, I felt very thankful.

(I was not yoga drunk. This is an old picture from a foggy night.)

I’ve had many blessings in this life, but it’s the little things that make me really happy.

Like the yoga class that was nowhere near as crappy as expected.

A cool night.

A sweet, happy little dog that’s always very happy to see me.

Brown rice that is ready in 90 seconds, making for a dinner that came together in approximately 120 seconds.

No early morning meetings or workouts planned tomorrow, for the first time this week. (Oh, let’s be real: this is really the most exciting part of this list.)

A half-marathon on Sunday.

One of my blogging buddies having just moved to NYC!

What are the little things that make you happy?

A daughter that lives in New York City instead of
Washington DC, and I can drive through the Lincoln Tunnel and candy cane forest to get there.

Ali’s Thankful Thursdays always make me happy and thankful too!! Great job on the morning workouts this week. You have completely inspired me and I am up at a ridiculous hour this Friday to work out.

    Keep it up 🙂

thanks for the shout out, T! I’ve definitely been to yoga classes before when I felt the same way – and wanted to get up and run out of the room, but I’m glad you stayed. it always has some sort of mental & physical benefit. if I were trained, I’d come run with you on Sunday! alas, I haven’t run more than 6 miles since last spring. :/

Found your blog from reading Tina’s…. You’ll do great on Sunday! I have run that race twice and with all the hills it helps to have a running partner, but I’m sure you will rock it!

Awesome that you stuck out the yoga class. I was in spin last night at a friend’s gym and I just wasn’t in the mood for the first 15 or 20 minutes of the class. The instructor and music just didn’t do it for me but and I contemplated leaving. BUT, I stuck with it and am glad I did. I was super sweaty and glad I stayed with it!
