Let’s Make a Bet

Like I said a few weeks ago, I’ve gained a few pounds.

So I joined the FitFluential DietBet. (I don’t get anything for sharing that link with you other than perhaps a bit more of the pot if you join, too, just like everyone else.)

For those of you unfamiliar with DietBet, you put (in this case) your money where your mouth is and bet $25 you can lose 4% of your body weight.

Crap. Hello putting my weight on the Internet.

For me, that works out to about 6 pounds in a month, which I think is totally doable and will put me right around my good normal weight.

This also gives me a good way to track my results of my Uplift partnership. (I’m going to take measurements too, just as soon as I find my measuring tape…)

I believe being really accountable for my weight and my food helped me lose all the weight (ALL THE WEIGHT) the first time around, so I’m going to go for accountable again to lose these few pounds I’d like to drop before summer…and to fit into my pants better and feel better about my appearance and more comfortable in my body. While I know I put on the weight from lots of fun over the past few months, that still doesn’t make me feel any less squishy.

Lately, the line between moderation and indulgence has been a hard one for me to toe, so I’m setting some ground rules for myself.

  • Less dairy. This upsets my stomach anyway, so I need to cut this out.
  • No sugary cocktails. I’m usually pretty good with this, but I’ve brought vacation mindset back from my past few trips and have had a few more sugary cocktails than I usually do.
  • Less processed food. Obviously.
  • Less wine. This is one of my biggest downfalls. I really like wine.
  • Less wheat. I will likely never go gluten-free, but I could definitely stand to eat less wheat/wheat products and eat more grains.

Have you ever tried DietBet? What do you either limit or add back in to your diet when you have just a few pounds to lose?

“I don’t get anything for sharing that link with you other than perhaps a bit more of the pot if you join, too, just like everyone else.” – I read this as “a bit more pot” and got really excited to join. Then I reread it. Less excited. But I think this is a great way to motivate yourself to stick with your goals!

I kind of want to do it, but if I do it, I want to win. I’ve done the math and I’d have to lose 10 pounds in a month. It’s taken me since last July to lose 15, and I don’t know if I *could* lose 10 pounds in a month. I think I may do one, but maybe the next one. Good luck! 🙂

That site is cool! I want to join! I only see 1 game and it’s already started. Does a new one start after 28 days?

Looks like you have the right mindset, which will lead to great results. I applaud you for knowing what you’re comfortable with and being willing to make changes, I’m in the same place right now. Many scoff at diets, but really, eating healthy and exercising is a “healthy DIET!”

Since I only have a little bit to lose or that I think I want to lose I have contemplated using it for the extra motivation to stay away from night time snacking (my only downfall really). I am interested to hear about your experience. I think that it sounds like a great way to stay on track! Because if you are anything like me, I am motivated by winning!

I am in the same place with my body, Theodora. Three months of dinners out and extra desserts this winter have settled around my belly in a noticeable five pounds, and my clothing is not fitting well at all. Yesterday my pants were so tight that I buttoned them on my drive home from work – not cool.

I tried DietBet for the first time a few weeks ago, and it was a great motivator for the first week, but I fell off the wagon.

I have also gained a few pounds since I am on my period and have been munching out like crazy! It’s ok though, my workout is usually effective and I usually see results quickly! Good luck to you ladies!

I wish I did this a while ago. Have lost a lot for me since November 1st but I am in the home stretch now. I do love hearing about these things!

I’m in on this one too, and I’m going to have to lose around the same amount. I need to so badly. I think reducing dairy and sugars as well as carbs is going to be my best bet. I keep eating bad stuff and thinking, Oh, I’ll start tomorrow. And we’re having pizza for dinner, so I’m going to say I’m starting Monday since a goal race is Sunday.
