Committing.

Hello from the other side of a quiet, peaceful and productive Saturday.

I started it the way I start every other Saturday: JuicePress run club.

My legs felt heavy and stiff and tight, but the company was great. I’ve felt so, so tight lately, so I’ve been trying my hardest to dial back on the intensity of my workouts where possible. (Way less fun.) I’m going to a stretching workshop tomorrow at Uplift, and I can’t wait to leave there all limber and stuff. I met my Junior League run club for brunch after at Balthazar before having lots and lots of much-needed alone time after being home last weekend, LA the weekend before that, and my ball the weekend before that.

At run club, I talked to Jenna for a while about the half Ironman. She did one last year and said that while they are obviously long, she felt it was easier than a marathon.

I’ve had HIM on my mind the past few weeks, and while I’m not sure when exactly I’ll really start training, I do want to start swimming again. So I joined New York Health & Racquet again. The pool’s a little short, but it’s close and it’s month-to-month. Close being most key: the best workout is the one you’ll actually do, and for me, that’s the closest one.

Then, sweet Bailey and I sat in Madison Square Park for a while watching the other dogs and people, and making canine and human friends.

THANK GOD the sun is back.

Afterwards, I went and bought some of those snazzy pedals that allow you to both clip in or just ride regular. Next step: figure out how to actually ride clipped in. (Well, I guess the riding is the easy part…)

I spent the rest of the day cleaning/organizing/and then returning some birthday presents. FYIs: J. Crew is having an awesome 25% sale. I found white jeans that don’t suck. Poll: do I really have to wait until Memorial Day to wear them? I am very unclear where we stand on this as a world. Non-fashion blogger take on what I saw in J. Crew and C. Wonder: lots of military-inspired clothing, very little dresses and skirts. Dear stores: please get more girlie stuff in. I hate pants.

And now I am ready to go to sleep dreaming of half-Ironmans and messaging with a boy about bacon.

Tell me your favorite tri blogs. Other than Victoria’s, of course. Would love both hard-core people and total newbs like me.

And a huge congrats to my girl Kimra, who’s riding a million miles this weekend: from SF to Santa Cruz, and back.

    Hey Theodora!
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but since you changed your blog I find it really difficult to read on my phone. The content is all squished on the left side and all the photos are distorted. Is it just me? Or is there some way you could make it easier to read and see your photos? Thanks! 🙂

Congrats on committing to 70.3! There is so much information out there – on active.com and also slowtwitch forums – and tons of great advice. You already mentioned getting clipless pedals. The other two investments that I would totally make before tackling the 70.3 distance would be swim lessons and a bike fit. I took a bunch of monthly swim lessons that were specifically geared to tris, and they were super helpful. A good bike fit will allow you to ride longer and be more comfortable while riding!

My rule of thumb is white pants after Easter and not after Labor Day. However being in the south I see woman wearing white pants all seasons. I say if you want to wear them go for it!

I’ve run several half marathons, but have a full marathon and a sprint triathlon on my “to do” list. I was a swimmer growing up and I also love cycling. As far as “clipping in” for cycle classes, it is actually easier to ride than having tennis shoes in the “gates”. I did find, though, that you get a deeper workout. Perhaps because there is more control and a higher intensity with the clips.

As far as white jeans…if the temperatures call for it, WEAR it! Coming from the South, I never subscribed to the idea that you can’t wear white jeans between Labor Day and Easter. If it’s freaking 90 degrees outside, I’m wearing them. Plus, I’ve seen so many ways to “winterize” white jeans lately. My opinion…go for it! I, too, bought a pair from J. Crew a few weeks ago and will be rocking them in the near future. Perhaps on Wednesday as a tribute to the impending return of snow.

You can absolutely wear white jeans year round! I’m interested in reading responses about tri blogs since I’m training for my first and would like to read as much as I can. I’d love to see a blog post with a tri blog link up or something like that. 🙂

Have fun most of all doing the 70.3.

I am new to blogging and just started this year

Power walking, running, and Ironman have been a life changer for me from Heart Attack in 2008 at 289lbs to attempting to Race 500 Miles this year in 2014 and I am at 179 lbs now and hopefully going down a bit more.

A couple Tri Blogs for you, http://www.breeweehawaii.blogspot.ca and http://www.trigirlpink.blogspot.ca

    Good Luck and Have fun

I've been toying with the idea of HIM for a while. Not this year, but one year, so I'm interested to read about your training.

Although I’ve never done a tri (YET), I love swimbikemom.com. She (Meredith Atwood) has a book about tri training too you might want to check out!
