A Wedding Grows in Brooklyn

This morning, I got up a little earlier than usual and ran and had coffee with a friend who’s moving this week. I feel like I’ve already had a whole other day before work, and I kind of love it. Despite the moving thing.

Union 501 Wedding

This weekend my boss/friend/favorite person Jordan got married, and it was a beautiful day and weekend. I think I’ve mentioned once or twice that I love my job? I love what I do: communicating with people all day about why working out and living a healthy lifestyle is awesome. I love my company: a company that believes in bringing the best fitness to as many people as we can. But we all know what makes or breaks a job is the people you work with day in and day out, and I work with such smart, funny and caring people that 99% of the time, I truly enjoy going to work. A huge part of that is because I hit the manager lottery: Jordan is one of the nicest people I’ve met, and is so awesome as both a manager and a friend. So I was so honored that she invited all of us to share in her big day.

DreamDry Blowout

I started my day at DreamDry. Grace has been doing these awesome hair tutorials with a stylist from DreamDry, and while I will never be able to follow any of her tutorials, I can certainly book her stylist, Jay. And he is amazing. I walked out of the salon very, very happy AND the blowout lasted until I washed my hair this morning, so I consider it well worth it.

My coworker Amanda and I split an Uber out to the venue in Brooklyn, and made it there with plenty of time to spare. Whew. (I was really nervous about traffic.)

Earlier in the week, Jordan had been concerned about possible rain since the ceremony was outside, but she got incredibly lucky with the weather.

Doesn’t she look gorgeous?! We ended up sitting in the last row purely by accident, but it was awesome because we were the first ones to see her when she walked in. I obviously cried no less than three times during the ceremony. I cannot attend a wedding without bringing all of my eye makeup to immediately redo in the bathroom following the ceremony.

Beach waves, long floral dress — beach or Brooklyn? Clearly we know where my heart and head are. I got this dress at the Lilly sample sale several years ago for somewhere between $30-40 when it retailed for $300+. I’ve only worn this dress twice, but it’s made me really happy both times. I also knew there was no way in hell anyone else would be wearing the same dress!

Here’s to love and happiness.

Sappy Theodora is still around. Tell me about your favorite wedding!

I had a wedding this weekend too! My boyfriends cousin got married and it WAS on the beach! It was gorgeous scene; perfect weather with crashing waves in the background. Then we took the party inside to dance the night away. If I ever wanted a beach wedding, this one was ideal.

My best friend is getting married in August, to her college sweetheart, at our college, so tears are going to flow hard. Its her bachelorette party this weekend and there’s a real good chance there will be tears then as well. But all in a good way.

I don’t post very often, but first, congrats on an amazing half marathon PR (sorry i am behind on posts). second, you look great! third, i wondered how you felt about the lily cartoons saying: “Just another day of fat, white, and hideous. You should probably just kill yourself.” and “Put it down carb face.” Harsh! Also Lily doesn’t offer plus sizes in stores, only online. (Note, I am not plus sized, just was pretty taken aback by all this!

      Thanks 🙂

So, re: Lilly. As someone who used to be verging on plus-sized AND loved Lilly, I did hate that they didn’t sell plus sizes. (I think then they didn’t sell them AT ALL, not just online-only.) As for those cartoons, I’ve been mulling a post in my head about body image that definitely includes that, but the gist: not cool. While it was one person’s personal cartoon, it’s pretty surprising that they didn’t do a thorough sweep of the offices to make sure they were photograph-ready.

        @Theodora Blanchfield:

awesome, thank you for the reply! it is great that they do sell plus sizes now; it is such a growing market and IMO there would be high demand for lily plus sized items in stores. yeah the cartoon situation; cant blame an entire company on a few of their employees but they definitely should walk around pre-photography shoot just to make sure everything looked…well…PC 🙂

Would it be obnoxious to say mine? Food and drink were important to us. So, we kicked things off with a canoe of ice cold beer, signature cocktails, delicious food and danced the night away. I love weddings, but all my friends are married now. 🙁

This past weekend I too attended the wedding of a close friend who met his fiance at the sleep-away camp we all attended. Our parents all met at the same sleep-away camp. When I first received the invitation I wasn’t looking forward to attending since I was 30 pounds heavier and not confident. However with my recent weight loss, new gained confidence and and amazing little black dress I was more than happy to attend!! It was a wonderful evening!!
