Leaving Las Vegas

I am currently blogging from 30,000 feet in the air just over New Mexico.

FlightAware is awesome, and so is in-flight wi-fi. For someone like me that is an incredibly nervous and paranoid flyer, I can’t believe I haven’t been on a flight with wi-fi before. Being able to chat with buddies and e-mail my parents (oh, and that little pill I slipped when I got on board) is making this flight so much smoother mentally for me.

Last night, with an early flight looming over us, we had a relatively low-key night of wine and tapas at Julian Serrano in the Aria hotel. It’s sort of funny to me that nearly every place you go in Vegas is in a hotel or mall–there’s not much free-standing stuff.

You don’t smell like Santa! You smell like beef and cheese.

We started with pan manchego, toasted bread with a garlicky tomato sauce and a piece of Manchego cheese. So simple, so good.

Moved on to scallops.

Ahi tuna tempura with avocado and mango ensaladilla and wasabi foam.

Calamari.

Flat iron steak with Japanese eggplant in between.

Sauteed baby spinach with pine nuts, apple, raisins and shallots.

Those were the original ones we started with, but we were still hungry. (I have no idea how.)

So we got some risotto.

And salmon. And then we were finally full!

About to land, grab some breakfast and fly back to New York!!!
