Taking a Break

First of all, my apologies to anyone who I scared by calling my post “Bye Bye Bailey” last night.

This sweet little boy is just fine–he’s just out in NJ with his grandparents while I’m in Vegas.

So, since apparently I’m into writing leading post titles lately, let me set this one straight right away: I’m not taking a break from blogging.

I’m just taking a teeny tiny break from working out. After running three back-to-back-to-back half-marathons, I’m a little burnt out and my body needs a rest. I’m also pretty busy (with important stuff like Junior League meetings, waxing and nail appointments) before I leave, and I’d rather be honest with myself this week: I just don’t have/[want to make] the time to work out this week. While yes, I exercise to maintain my weight and stay healthy, I also exercise because I enjoy it, and I don’t want to ever stop enjoying it.

I’m giving myself permission to not exercise this week so that I appreciate it more when I do return. I’m bringing my sneakers and workout clothes to Vegas, and I suspect that with time as a luxury this weekend (YESSSSS!), I’ll be more than happy to sweat a little with my workout buddy.

[Breakfast was a sunflower butter sandwich; lunch was leftovers. You’re not missing anything.]

Random questions:

1. I’m considering getting a bike (because I’m considering a sprint tri/it’s a good workout)–probably a road or hybrid. Any recommendations?

2. Any good Vegas restaurant recommendations? Preferably restaurants that aren’t also in NYC.

3. Any fun iPad apps I should download for the plane/poolside?

I admire you. I’m a crazy person and will work out and forgo all the other appointments. Well, except waxing. I don’t forgo that. So jealous you’ll be in Vegas soon!! And high five for giving yourself a break. You DEFINITELY deserve it!

I bought a Cannondale Quick 4 for a charity ride. It’s a hybrid, but has nice thin wheels and it’s comfortable. Road bikes are just a little intense for me, especially since most of the time I just want to tool around on a bike. I definitely like my bike and am looking forward to breaking it out of the storage unit now that the weather is getting warmer.

I’m so glad you posted this. I broke up with my boot camp this morning because I just wasn’t enjoying it AT ALL. I was standing there in my workout clothes, ready to go, and just thought, “This feeling is why I hated going to the gym for years.” I never want to dread exercise again! So I’m taking this week to reset.

    Road, road, road, road, road! πŸ™‚ A hybrid will definitely work for a sprint tri, but if you end up wanting to do something longer you’d be happier with a road bike. Might as well only buy a bike once. {I’m clearly biased right now…;)}

I don’t know the first thing about bikes, so no good advice…but I am planning to do a sprint tri this summer. Let’s find a fun one! Enjoy your Vegas break πŸ™‚

I just got back from Vegas last night, and here were the best restaurants I went to:

Cafe Bellagio: SUPER AFFORDABLE tasty food in the Bellagio
Wolfgang Puck’s Postrio: Good Italian food in the Venetian
Wicked Spoon: Buffet in the Cosmopolitan w/ a fantastic brunch
Tacos and Tequila: Decent Mexican food in the Luxor

Also, check out the Sin City Brewing Company. There are a few different locations (I went to the one in the Venetian). They don’t bottle their beer, it’s all local and really awesome. The wheat beer was fantastic.

    Have fun!

I take weeks off exercise all the time. My favorite fitness book in the world, The New Rules of Lifting for Women, actually builds them into the program–it’s the best way to see gains! Enjoy it.

Also, I highly recommend Bouchon/Bouchon Bakery at the Venetian. Great spot to hit for breakfast. The pastries and croissants are to die for.

Road bike all the way, I have a Fuji and I love it! I’m also obsessed with the following apps: kindle, Run Keeper (if you decide to exercise, saves me from always having to bring my Garmin), the Nike training app,and Netflix!

    Enjoy your trip πŸ™‚

There are of course TONS but a couple must try places for us were The Burger Bar at Mandalay (in the mall connecting it to Luxor) & the buffet at the Bellagio or Wynn (both awesome!!!)
