My Winter Favorites

I need a lighter post after yesterday’s heavy one, no?
A few months ago, I decided I needed new snow boots to replace the ones I’d had since college. (Hey, they held up really well!) I also decided then and there that this winter was going to be a doozy and I should replace my winter coat, too.
Like most winters in NYC, this one kind of sucks, but here’s a few of the products making it slightly more tolerable.
1. Maybelline Master Prime Illuminator: I read about this on Racked a few weeks ago and HAD TO HAVE IT. The article said it would give my face a lovely glow, and who can’t use that in the harst NYC winter? Done and done.
2. Clinique Repairwear Sculpting Night CreamI got this one in a gift with purchase set. As long as the birthdays keep coming, I’m going to keep looking for great moisturizers. Or a reliable place to get Botox. Either one!
3. New Balance WindblockerWhen the ground is dry (big when!), I’ve been trying to run outside when I can, unless it’s under like 20. This jacket is my jam baby. Paired with the NBx Minimus Long Sleeve from a few years ago, it’s the perfect combo to stay warm. It looks and feels like this Lulu top for a fraction of the price.
4. Clarisonic Mia: I resisted this for YEARS, but I got one for Christmas, and I get it. My skin is as soft as a baby’s butt, and was more glowy even before I got the snazzy illuminator.
5. Sorel Jane of Arctic: These are heavy SOBs, but they are WARM and keep my feet dry.
6. North Face Arctic Down Parka: Notice a theme with these last two? Yeah…I’m all about staying warm. I’d had the big sleeping bag down coat but wanted something a little classier. The sleeping bag coat was warm, my ski coat is North Face, don’t mess with a good thing.
What’s keeping you sane this winter?

My city is currently in a local state of emergency because we received over a metre of snow in a week. There’s no where to put it and more coming tomorrow! There are no sidewalks, so no running outside. I make a point of getting out whenever I can to snowshoe or ski. We’ve been stuck inside where at home work outs help. Storm chips and wine help too. I am all over Sorel, North Face and LL Bean for warmth and stopped caring what I looked like. 😉 I have outdoor duty every day and warmth is priority #1. Canada Goose jackets are very popular where I live, but I can’t bring myself to hand over the money for one.

I didn’t find yesterday’s post to be dark. I found it very honest and that’s why I enjoy your blog.

Since we have a long cold winter here in Calgary, I knew I needed a new warm winter jacket this year. I got a down one from LL Bean and I love it! I’ve gotten compliments on it’s color and it keeps me toasty warm.

Well I hate to brag but here in Utah we are enjoying an incredibly mild Winter! I can’t complain since I’ve been training for a full marathon all Winter and have been lucky enough that ALL my long runs I’ve been able to take outside. Before we know it we’ll all be sad about the 90+ degree temps of summer. I’m totally a Winter runner, even when it’s snowing or raining. I can’t stand HOT summer running.

Sorry/you’re welcome 🙂 You know from this blog I’m a fairly skeptical person and I also put it off for YEARS. I thought it was such a waste of money and everyone was full of BS. They weren’t. It makes my face feel so much softer in the winter. I will say I can’t use it everyday both at night and in the am, but it definitely helps if I use it at least a few times a week.
