A Day in the Life: The New Normal

So, we just launched this epic new workout program at work this week! We’ve been preparing for it for a while, and it’s finally live and real people are working out to it, which is pretty awesome. We’re streaming live workouts every single day to our users. (And if you miss it, you can catch the replay all day!) If you’re interested, you can sign up to try it here. That is a referral link, but I get nothing from you using that other than knowing how many people I got to sign up!

The program is pretty awesome, but streaming a live show daily is obviously a huge production and has changed how a lot of us work.

Here’s a glance at a semi-typical day these days. This was my yesterday:

6:15: Wake up, pick out multiple different clothing options because I’m going to be in a workout. I am so tired and know we’ve talked a lot about how certain colors look on camera, so I honestly don’t care how anything will look on me — I just want something they are happy with. Make sure to remember laptop, etc.

7:00: Chug some Pre, grab a Kind bar from CVS and walk over to the adorable Anja‘s hotel.

7:15: Split Uber with Anja to our studios in Long Island City

7:45 – 8:15: Hang out and get some work done while everyone’s getting ready for the show to go on. Capture some behind-the-scenes photos for later use on social. Realize I have grabbed my personal laptop, not my work one, since they’re both MacBook Airs…and it’s dead.

8:15 – 8:30: Hair and makeup. I currently have side bangs, and I wonder how they’re going to handle those bad boys. THEY BRAIDED THEM. YASSSS. Also, they let me wear my fave tank with a pair of sweet new Sauconys.

8:30: Quick rehearsal to make sure we understand the moves Anja’s about to throw down for us. Try to hide in the back row so nobody catches that I do not, actually, know how to follow choreography. I can do all the moves, but in sync with everyone else? LOLLLL.

Yup, just doing my own thing back there.

9:00: And we’re live! My attempts to hide are for naught, as I’m pulled up right behind Anja. Great. The workout is about 30 minutes, and while it’s not super hard (it’s meant to be accessible for beginners, too), I sweat like a pig under the lights. And I rarely sweat.

9:30ish – 10: chat, get some more photos for social

10: Back on the subway to the office! Run into a lovely girl I know from Uplift and chat with her on way back.

10:30: Get off subway, grab largest coffee I can find at Dunkin and run home to switch out laptops.

10:40: Arrive at work and catch up on the Slack convos that happened while I was in transit.

11: Meeting to discuss how the show went and what needs to be done by the next day.

12 – 2: Get some work done at my desk! Whoa.

2 – 2:30: Quick check in with just my team

3: Run home to hand off Bailey to my wonderful mother, who is picking him up because I am in the Hamptons again this weekend.

3:30 – 4:30: Two more meetings.

4:30 – 7:30: Catch up on…everything.

7:30: Bummed that I’ve missed a press event I was supposed to go to, text BFF to see what she’s up to, and she invites me to her house for dinner with her and her husband. Have fun, relaxing dinner with her and walk home around 11:30, thankful she lives just across the park from me.

Work is really busy but exciting right now. I’ll probably be out in LIC a few days a week going forward, which is fun, but I need to figure out how to fit my morning workouts in.

What does a day in your life look like? When do you workout?

I have a day in the life post going up next week!! I am currently working out after work at 5:30ish, sometimes it can be after dinner at 8 pm, but I prefer to go from work to workout, so that when dinner is over I can have some computer time and go to bed.

Super cute hair and tank! I sweat like a pig regardless whenever I workout. I went to yoga for the first time in over a year yesterday and despite it not being hot yoga, I was dripping everywhere. I’ve been switching my workouts to the AM to get them out of the way and so far so good. I still need to get used to running first thing. Any tips? I feel like my legs are super heavy in the morning.

loooove that side braid — you should make that a thing, it looks great on you. i prefer morning workouts but am adjusting to being back from California this week, so it’s been all evenings. this wknd will be back to mornings.

You just might have the most fun job ever!

Ever since I moved cities (so, a year and a half ago), I’ve struggled with finding a consistent time to always workout. Lately I’ve been trying the 5:15 wakeup call route, but it’s SO HARD especially with summer social events/travel/life keeping me up later than I’d like. This week has been a “regrouping” time for my fitness. I’ll get back to it after Labor Day …

The side braid looks AWESOME on you! How fun that you got to be in a workout. And don’t get me started on the computer thing. I’ve forgotten mine at home one too many times, only to realize it once I walk through my office doors!
